Miley Cyrus reveals her “First Time” was with Liam Hemsworth at 16, and she lied about it for years

In what seems to be one of her most candid interviews to date, Miley Cyrus opened up about her love life and sexual history, while appearing on Alexandra Cooper’s Call Me Daddy podcast. During her hour-long interview, Cyrus revealed who she lost her virginity to, how her first sexual experience was actually with women. And what she is looking for in a partner now.

“But I ended up marrying the guy. So that’s pretty crazy”

The former child star got personal when discussing how her former spouse, Liam Hemsworth was the first man she had sex with at the age of 16. “I didn’t go all the way with a dude until I was 16. It wasn’t Nick Jonas,” she quipped of her Disney Channel ex. “But I ended up marrying the guy. So that’s pretty crazy,” she said.

“I lied and said he wasn’t the first”

Miley married Liam in December 2018 after an on-and-off relationship spanning 10 years. However, the couple shocked the world last summer when they announced their separation. The pair finalized their divorce earlier this year. Miley even confessed that at the time she lied to the actor about it being her first time. “I lied and said he wasn’t the first so I didn’t seem like a loser,” she said adding that she couldn’t think of anyone so she chose a friend.

“I was attracted to girls way before I ever was attracted to guys”

But her former husband and The Last Song co-star wasn’t the singer’s first sexual encounter. Cyrus divulged that she’d had intimate experiences with other girls prior to Hemsworth and how she was sexually attracted to women before men.

“I was attracted to girls way before I ever was attracted to guys,” she started. “When I was like, 11 years old, I used to think that Minnie Mouse was super f**king hot. Which is so good. I ended up on Disney, so my chances with Minnie went up by a hundred. Yeah, she was super hot to me. I always thought that the female characters in movies were way hotter than any of the guys. Actually, I never really understood what these girls were doing with these like, idiots like, a lot of the time,” the singer revealed.

“When I was like 11 or 12, my friends were starting to kind of like, tell me what they were doing with guys. And I didn’t really understand it, so I got most of my girlfriends to hook up with me. The first time I ever hooked up with anyone was with a girl, two of them. Yeah, [I went past first base.]”

“I feel like as a woman I was villainized for moving on”

Miley spoke more of her relationship with Hemsworth, that started on the set of their film, The Last Song, in 2008. Liam and Miley were engaged from 2012 to 2013 and split for several years thereafter. The couple rekindled their romance in 2016 before tying the knot in 2018. However, they announced their split a few months into their marriage in August 2019. “The relationship I had for 10 years was an amazing time in my life,” she said. “I love who I am so much right now. If any of those things hadn’t happened I’m not sure that I would be the same person.”

After the couple split last year, she had a very brief and public relationship with Kaitlynn Carter. Miley revealed she struggled with being portrayed as having cheated. “I feel like as a woman I was villainized for moving on and I really feel like that isn’t acceptable,” she said.

Miley and Cody Simpson’s recent split

In her new song, “Midnight Sky,” which debuted on Friday, Cyrus sings “I don’t belong to anyone” and “I don’t need to be loved by you.” The new single comes in line with news that Cyrus and her boyfriend of 10 months, Cody Simpson, broke up.

Cyrus and Simpson were first romantically linked in October 2019 when they were spotted on a breakfast date shortly after she split from Hills star, Kaitlynn Carter. Which was following the singer’s separation from ex-husband Hemsworth.

“I need an anchor, I need a weight”

Of future partners she said, “I need a calming [partner], I need an anchor, I need a weight.” Adding, “’Someone has to bring more to the table than their plate. They can’t be like “fill me up” all the fu****g time. It’s really important that I feel fulfilled. Even in my relationships with men, a lot of the times, I kinda hold a more dominant space,’ she said. Adding that the power dynamic made relationships with women more appealing because it felt more natural.

‘I need to find a guy that’s confident enough in himself that he’s ok that I’m kind of masculine and strong. And there’s a lot of qualities to me that tend to associate more with the male role, and that’s just bulls**t.” She continued, “I was thinking, the last year has been really transformative,’ she said. ‘I felt this self-realization period. I started having that over the last two years.’

‘Through a little bit of trauma,’ she said of her personal growth. ‘Physical like my house burning down was one of the most transformative periods of my life. And going through a massive breakup. One thing that I gained through all the loss is an idea that what I do is for me, and that isn’t selfish.’

“Someone has to bring something that is elevating my life”

Being with women works better for Cyrus now, she admitted. “I’ve just been more experimental, I’ve been with a lot of dudes and chicks. I’ve been with super femme girls, girls that kind of make me feel more femme.”

Cyrus went on to reveal what she’s ultimately looking for from anyone she dates, no matter who it is. “I really don’t have a type. The main thing for me is that someone has to bring something that is elevating my life. And that’s in all my relationships, not just my sexual relationships.”
