Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson have broken up after less than a year of dating. The couple had started seeing each other after Miley’s separation from ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.
According to TMZ, the couple have ended their relationship in the last few weeks. The reason for their separation is still not clear according to sources.
However, Miley seems to be in high spirits even after her breakup. She was seen visiting a friend in Calabasas on Thursday afternoon. The 27-year-old singer had a coffee mug in hand and sported a vintage Fleetwood Mac concert tee and jeans for her outing.
She was accompanied by another friend and appeared to be happy. Cody and Miley were known for their relationship but they had been friends for a long time.
In an interview, Cody claimed Miley was the coolest girl he had ever met in LA. He further revealed that Miley and he get along really well and that the singer inspired him to not care so much. In an interview with GQ magazine, he claimed Miley to be one of his best friends in December of 2015.
‘Miley is one of my best friends and she helps with some of that transitional stuff – trying to escape your childhood. She’s super open-minded and I’m working on becoming more like that,’ he gushed.
Miley and Cody’s friendship turned into a romantic relationship back in October 2019. The couple was seen making out at Backyard Bowls in Los Angeles, as reported by TMZ. The couple got together two months after it was revealed that Liam and Miley are getting divorced. Miley had also had a fling with reality star Kaitlynn Carter.
Miley on Facing Backlash For ‘Moving on Too Fast’
However, the singer faced a lot of backlash for moving on too quickly. She responded to this on Twitter and defended herself. She said that she is aware that the public feels involved in her past relationship because people felt like they were in it from the beginning. Miley added that she is grown and she makes her choices as an adult knowing the reality.
The singer continued to post photos of Cody on her social media handle. Cody went public on their relationship on October 6 by posting a picture of her along with calling her his baby. Miley had been admitted for a serious case of tonsillitis in October and Cody was beside her throughout the time.
‘this sweeeeeet guy came to visit at the hospital and sang the sweeeeeetest song he just wrote for me,’ wrote Cyrus. She posted pictures and videos on Instagram. She said she is pressuring him to drop it next week and it is working. The singer shared several photos of him and also shared that he bought a bouquet for her. In another snap, he was seen lying beside Miley in the hospital bed.
Cody was questioned about Miley at the time at Tiffany & Co. Mens Launch in Los Angeles. He said they both were very happy together and also claimed their love is not something that happened suddenly.
Cody was accused of cheating on Miley back in December 2019 after being spotted with Playmate Jordy Murray. However, Cody denied the cheating rumors or any relationship with Jordy. ‘There is absolutely no truth to this story. Cody went out with a friend and all the rest is fabricated. Period,’ wrote Cody’s agent to an outlet.

The couple used to flood fans with a lot of PDA with images and videos of them hanging out together. For Cody’s birthday in January, Miley posted a picture with him calling him his best friend. She wished him and said she loves him.
The couple even got matching tattoos right before the pandemic hit in March. It was a tribute to Cody’s poetry book titled Prince Neptune. They spent their quarantine time together as well.
A few weeks before they broke up, the couple engaged in a TikTok video challenge. In the video clip, Miley sported a blue bikini and Cody wore sweatpants as they showed off their moves for the camera.
Cody and Miley’s split comes after Liam and Miley filing for divorce after less than two years of getting married. A source close to the couple revealed about their lives after filing for divorce. The source revealed Liam and Miley have little to no communication. They only discussed about their decisions regarding plans and property.
The estranged couple haven’t been in touch and it is for their own good. Both of them needed time to heal and move on, reveals the source. Talking about Miley and Cody’s relationship, the source said it has been a huge change for her.
‘What began as close friends supporting one another during a rough time, blossomed into more. [Miley and Cody’s] relationship was unexpected and became meaningful very quickly, and she couldn’t be happier. They are both very passionate about their music and it’s something that has bonded them,’ said the source prior to the news of Miley’s split from Cody.
Miley also had opened up about her decision for sobriety which has only been better for her. She thanks her sobriety for allowing her to be ‘very present in her relationship.’ The source said her decision to be sober has changed the way she thinks about life. She is looking forward to making it a long term lifestyle.
