Food Network star Katie Lee welcomes Baby Girl with husband Ryan Biegel Following Infertility Struggles

Katie Lee is a new mom! Congratulations are in order for Katie Lee and Husband Ryan Biegel who welcomed their first child, a daughter on September 2nd. The Food Network star announced the happy news on her Instagram, where she also revealed her daughter’s name for the first time.

“Welcome, baby Iris Marion Biegel ???? 9.2.20 ????. Our hearts are so full.” The celebrity chef captioned an adorable photo of the newborn snuggled up in bed with the proud mom who is smiling down at her.

This is the first child for Katie and television producer, Ryan, who got married in September 2018. Katie was previously married to singer, Billy Joel from 2004 to 2010.

Pregnancy announcement and Gender Reveal

The couple first announced that they were expecting a baby, back in February. Lee took to Instagram to share a photo of herself baring her baby bump. “Eating for two? Baby Biegel is on the way!” she wrote in her announcement.

Then in April, during a virtual episode of her show, “The Kitchen,” the mom-to-be shared that they were having a girl. “Ryan and I have some good news to share. We decided to find out whether we’re having a boy or a girl. We just needed some good news to be excited about.” She said before whipping out a strawberry shake for the gender reveal.

“My husband @ryanbiegel and I are very excited to share that we are having a baby girl! It was so much fun to do our ‘reveal’ this morning with my @foodnetwork #TheKitchen family and all of you!” she wrote on social media. Katie also opened up about the couple’s decision to find out the sex of the baby, writing, “Our original plan was to wait and be surprised at birth. But we decided at a time like this, some good news for us to be excited about right now outweighed a surprise in September,’ explained Lee, in a post shared to her Instagram.

“Not only is IVF physically exhausting, the emotional toll is unparalleled”

News of the couple’s pregnancy announcement came four months after the Summer Cookbook author revealed her struggle with Infertility. While also addressing the fact that she and Biegel had had difficulties conceiving since their September 2018 wedding.

The cookbook author spoke about her Infertility challenges in an Instagram post back in April 2019, writing, “When Ryan and I got married, our plan was to start a family right away. I couldn’t wait to get pregnant, I naively thought it would be easy. I had to have surgery to correct a problem, got an infection, then I was so run down I got shingles. My doctor advised us to try IVF. We just finished the intense process only to get zero healthy embryos. Not only is IVF physically exhausting, the emotional toll is unparalleled. We were filled with hope and excitement only to be crushed.”

I get multiple messages a day asking me if I’m pregnant or why I am not pregnant yet. I get comments saying I look like I’ve gained weight, so I must be pregnant. After one said that I looked “thick in the waist” I finally responded that it’s not ok to comment on a woman’s body and you never know what someone is going through. There is so much pressure on women to look a certain way and while most mean well with baby questions, it can be hurtful. Many of you sent me messages sharing your personal stories of fertility issues. You helped me, so now I want to share my story with you. When Ryan and I got married, our plan was to start a family right away. I couldn’t wait to get pregnant! I naively thought it would be easy. I’m a healthy woman, I eat a balanced diet, exercise, I don’t smoke. Ryan is the same. But reproductive health is an entirely different ballgame. We were trying, I had to have surgery to correct a problem, got an infection, then I was so run down I got shingles. My doctor advised us to try iVF. We just finished the intense process only to get zero healthy embryos. Not only is iVF physically exhausting, the emotional toll is unparalleled. We were filled with hope and excitement only to be crushed. It is really hard to put on a happy face. Fertility issues are supposed to be private so many of us are silently in pain. I hesitated to share this but I feel comfort when I hear others’ stories and I hope any of you in a similar situation know you are not alone. When people ask me when I’m getting pregnant, it hurts. It’s just a reminder that I’m not. When they say I look like I’ve gained weight, I have. I can’t exercise as much and the hormones have made me bloated. At church on Easter, the priest started his sermon with a story about a family struggling to have a baby and the happiness they are now experiencing that their prayers have been answered. He said it is a time of new beginnings. Tears streamed down my face. I know a family will happen for us, it is just going to be a different journey than we imagined. We will keep working towards it. Someday we will have our happy new beginning and I pray any of you experiencing the same will have yours too.

“It is really hard to put on a happy face. Fertility issues are supposed to be private so many of us are silently in pain,” Lee wrote on social media at the time. “I hesitated to share this but I feel comfort when I hear others’ stories and I hope any of you in a similar situation know you are not alone. When people ask me when I’m getting pregnant, it hurts. It’s just a reminder that I’m not.”

Katie talked about staying optimistic throughout the incredibly tough journey, writing, “I know a family will happen for us, it is just going to be a different journey than we imagined. We will keep working towards it. Someday we will have our happy new beginning and I pray any of you experiencing the same will have yours too.”

And the couple did end up having their happy new beginning!

Lee, who said she read similar infertility stories from many women online, went on to offer comfort to other couples experiencing the same struggles. Sending her prayers for their own happy endings. Katie thanked everyone for the love and support she got after opening up about her struggles. ‘I am so beyond appreciative to all of you who have sent me kind messages and well wishes. Both since I got pregnant and since I shared with you about my fertility struggles last year,’ she wrote earlier this year in April.
