Congratulations are in order for Nicki Minaj! The Chun-li rapper and her husband, Kenneth “Zoo” Petty, are expecting their first child together. Minaj broke the news on Instagram to some very shocked fans, in a stunning series of photos that showed her growing baby bump. She simply captioned the picture, “#Preggers ????”
Minaj even thanked her fans in one post sharing how excited she was about the pregnancy. “Love. Marriage. Baby carriage. Overflowing with excitement & gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes. ????”
Nicki hasn’t revealed her due date or whether she knows the sex of the baby, but she is all smiles cradling her baby bump while sporting a bedazzled bikini and matching stiletto heels.
\While some fans have been touting her pregnancy as “Hollywood’s best kept secret,” others have been convinced for months now that she was expecting.
Has Nicki Been Hinting At Her Pregnancy?
Fans have been speculating about the rapper’s pregnancy for a while now. Especially after her recent pictures have been strategically covering her tummy.
In May, the rapper fueled rumours when she revealed that she was experiencing “nausea and peeing non stop.” This led fans to prompt questions about whether she was pregnant. However, Minaj wouldn’t confirm or deny a pregnancy.
When asked if she would share a pic of her baby bump, she responded, “Yea in a couple months. The world ain’t ready yet.” In one instance, Nicki even listed the bizarre food combinations she had been cooking up due to certain cravings.
Chance the Rapper’s Zanies and Fools track in 2019, confirmed that she was engaged to her boyfriend and there was definitely some baby talk. She rapped on the track, “He the Clyde to my Bonnie, ’bout to walk down the aisle and be a mommy. / Ooh, I remember when I cried like, ‘Why me?’ / Now I wouldn’t exchange my life for Armani.”
Announcing her possible retirement
Nicki’s happy news comes nearly nine months after the two tied the knot. 10 months earlier the rapper had also announced her intention to retire in order to focus on her family. “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me. Love you for LIFE,” she wrote on Twitter.
Although, that doesn’t seem like the case. Especially since the rapper recently released her latest single Yikes, and has also been hinting at a possible new album.
From “Ms. Minaj” to “Mrs. Petty”
In June 2019, Minaj revealed on her Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio show, “Queen Radio” that she and Petty had acquired a marriage license. “We did get our marriage license. I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness. It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I’m there, I don’t want to compromise that for anyone or anything.” Days later, the rapper took to Twitter, to change her name from “Ms. Minaj” to “Mrs. Petty”.
Back in October last year, Minaj revealed that the couple was officially married with an Instagram video. The video showed the couple’s matching “Mr. and Mrs.” mugs and black and white baseball caps with “Bride” and “Groom” written across the front.
Nicki and Kenneth go way back. The couple knew each other from Queens and first dated when she was 16 years old. They reunited in 2018 and the rest is history. Many fans believe that the couple keeps their relationship mostly private because of Kenneth’s controversial reputation.
Petty is a registered sexual offender and has served prison time for first-degree manslaughter. The couple has since moved on and are now starting a family together.
