Demi Lovato Alleges An Ex-Boyfriend Took Advantage of Her

Demi Lovato alleged that one of her ex-boyfriends took her virginity by raping her. She also shared that the person did not have to face any consequences.

The singer revealed that she ended up blaming herself for the attack like victims usually do. Meanwhile, the alleged rapist went on with his life as nothing had happened. “My #MeToo story is me telling somebody that someone did this to me and they never got in trouble for it,” Lovato says in her new YouTube docuseries “Dancing With the Devil,” which premiered March 23.

Demi further shared that the person was not taken out of the movie he was a part of. She claimed that she called her then-boyfriend back as a “textbook trauma reenactment”. This was after a month The I Love Me singer also claimed that her drug dealer sexually assaulted her while she overdosed.

She further shared that the poor decision has made her feel worse. Demi ended up blaming herself for the incident because she continued to hook up with her ex. This was even after she said she had never consented to sex with him.

At the time, it seems to have been during the time of Camp Rock 2008. She was also a part of the “purity ring” Disney Channel crowd. Celebrities used to wear the ring who were supposedly waiting for marriage. Because of all this, the singer felt ashamed of herself and what had happened with her ex.

Demi does not name the person and revealed that she started coping through self-harm. The former Disney star revealed that her bulimia was worse than ever and she was cutting herself. “I started throwing up blood for the first time,” she says.

“I really had myself fooled because it was the safe and expected thing”

The singer has had a rollercoaster of a life which she is revealing for the first time in her YouTube Originals Documentary Series, Dancing With The Devil. She has had many relationships which were not good for her or rather made her feel like a fool. She recently talked about her relationship with Max Ehrich, who she was engaged to.

The singer got engaged just four months after she started dating the actor. She says she had herself fooled into believing that commitment was something she needed. The Sorry Not Sorry singer revealed she thought it was something she needed to prove she’s okay.

She sat down with Entertainment Weekly and revealed the upcoming issue that she thought was safe and expected. The singer said, “I really had myself fooled because it was the safe and expected thing.” Demi further shared more about her relationship without really mentioning Max. She said, “Obviously I cared deeply about the person, but there was something inside of me that was like, ‘I have to prove to the world that I’m okay.’”

The singer revealed now that she is not engaged or married, she feels it’s more empowering. She said, “Now that I’m not engaged or married and I’m okay, I’m like, ‘Wow. Isn’t that so much more empowering?’ It’s not this false sense of security.”

Demi had begun dating Max in March 2020 and they were also living together while home during the lockdown. He had proposed to the I Love Me, singer in July on a beach as he presented a massive ring to her. She explained that even the piece of jewelry was one of the ways she was fooling herself.

Demi Is “Too Queer” To Settle Now

The singer shared that the size of the ring really made it “real”. She further said how once it was over, she thought she did not need that. The former Disney star revealed, “Also, the size of that ring, it made it really real. The second it was off, I was like, ‘You know what? I’m good. I don’t need that.’ I just don’t need an object on my finger to make me feel like I’ve got my s–t together.”

She further said that it looks like stability but it does not mean it is. The singer explained that the way to finding growth is not a secure and reliable place. She said, “I don’t actually grow through stability. I find that I like living not in chaos or crisis, but in fluidity. It’s not [being] stuck and stagnant in an ideal or a tradition that was placed upon us by the patriarchy.”

Demi explained that she is not interested in marriage at the moment. She shared that she is just “too queer” after deciding to live her truth. The singer has spoken about it many times in the past. “Regardless if drama is happening or not, I am too gay to marry a man right now,” she told the publication. “I don’t know if that will change in 10 years and I don’t know if that’ll never change, but I love accepting myself,” Demi explained, adding, “I’ve always known I was hella queer, but I have fully embraced it.”
