Sophie Turner was recently roped in to star in the upcoming HBO Max drama, The Staircase. The series will be based on the French true-crime documentary of the same title. Its story revolves around the case of Michael Peterson whose wife fell down the stairs. But the police suspected foul play following the legal drama.
As per Variety, Sophie is the latest name to join the cast of HBO Max’s series. She will be playing Margaret Ratliff who is one of Michael’s adopted daughters. Even after the questionable coincidence of her own mother’s death, Margaret is convinced that Michael is innocent.
The Staircase will mark Sophie’s return on HBO as well as to the world of series after her highly successful run on Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2019. Michael’s case was followed by fans around the world who love true-crime and has inspired many books as well. Back in 2018, Netflix had added three whole episodes to the original The Staircase documentary and streamed all 13 parts.
The retelling of the story by HBO Max will be a scripted narrative based on the crime. The eight-part miniseries will be written by Antonio Campos. Other cast members include Colin Firth in the lead role as Michael, Toni Collete, Juliette Binoche, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Parker Posey.
It will be interesting to see the star-studded cast recreate an intriguing true story. The documentary was a hit and if that is any indication then the series will also be successful. HBO Max has yet to announce a premiere date but the series will attract viewers when it does release.
