Singer Kumar Sanu Apologies Publicly On Behalf Of His Son’s Statement In Bigg Boss 14

After the recent fiasco over Jaan’s statement in Bigg Boss 14, his father and singer Kumar Sanu has apologised on his behalf. In a video, Kumar Sanu shared that he has learnt that Jaan made some objectionable statements in the house and he wants to apologise on his behalf.

What Did Kumar Sanu Say?

He says in the video, “I heard that my son, Jaan, said something very wrong that never crossed my mind or could have crossed my mind in these 41 years. Maharashtra, Mumbai and Mumba devi blessed me and gave me name, fame and everything else. I can never think such things about that same Mumba devi and Maharashtra. I love and respect all languages of India. I have sung songs in different languages.”

He further added, “I haven’t stayed with them for 27 years and I don’t know what teachings he got, what to speak and what not to speak. I don’t know about the upbringing his mother gave him and I don’t understand how he could have said such a thing. I am sorry. As a father, I can only apologise to you all.”

He also added that Maharashtra has given him everything and he has always participated in events such as Bal Thackeray’s birth anniversary celebrations. He has been closely associated with their family functions.

Why This Controversy?

In a recent episode, Bigg Boss called Jaan in the confession room and he apologised on the show and said that he unwittingly hurt the sentiments of Marathi-speaking people. He said that it was not intentional and that he would not repeat his mistake.

For the uninitiated, Jaan had told Nikki Tamboli to not speak in Marathi with fellow contestant Rahul Vaidya and said “mereko chid hoti hai (it irks me)”. This remark rubbed many the wrong way. MNS leader Ameya Khopkar had demanded an immediate apology.

Jaan’s mother Rita Bhattacharya in an exclusive conversation with ETimes TV stated that Maharashtra has given so much recognition, love and respect to Jaan’s father Kumar Sanu and he would not disrespect the language. She said, “I am requesting everyone to please let this be a game show and not make it a controversial thing. The clip which is being talked about where Nikki Tamboli and Rahul Vaidya are talking to Marathi and Jaan simply asked her to stop talking in that language because he did not understand the language. How can we insult the Marathi language?. We have been living in the state for the last 30-40 years, how can we insult that state or language.”
