Netflix Original South Korean Horror Series ‘Kingdom’ To Return With A Bonus Episode
Kingdom is a horror based Netflix series of South Korea written by Kim Eun-hee.
The series is based on the written book The Land of the Gods, also by Kim Eun-hee. When it was released for the first time in 2019, since then it is the horror series that has always been one of the most popular non-English series available on Netflix.
Special Bonus Episode
It’s been a year since the release of the second season of the Kingdom on Netflix, and sadly we are still far from hearing any news that the series will be revived for the third season.
Our confidence that the Kingdom series will return has grown significantly after confirmation that the series will return with a special bonus episode, exploring the character of Gianna Jun, portrayed by Jun Ji-hyun.
It has been confirmed that Kingdom: Ashin of the North will arrive on Netflix on July 23, 2021.
Will There Be A Season 3?
Despite the non-renewal, we still hope the series will return for the third season. Our confidence has been greatly strengthened since screenwriter Kim Eun-hee and director Park in-je were interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Fans, as well as ourselves, are thrilled to learn of Kim Eun-hee’s zeal for the future of the Kingdom.
Cast Changes
We bid farewell to the many members included in the second season, many sadly becoming victims of the vicious COVID disease.
One of the actors we will be seeing the most in the third season will be Jun Ji Hyun.
Although that name may be unfamiliar to some, the South Korean actor has been spotted in the dying moments of the second season of the State, portraying her as a culprit spreading the resurrection flower around Korea.
It was revealed in late 2019 that Jun Ji Hyun had been cast, but her role was kept a very strong secret. Now we can understand why, because her casting is all but confirms the third era of the Kingdom.
When Will Season 3 Begin Shooting?
The global pandemic was a major obstacle to the future of the Original series, as was the case with many Netflix Originals who saw delays like Grace and Frankie, or cancellations like GLOW.
With no news confirmed that the Kingdom is returning for season 3 it is difficult to predict when we can expect it to start filming.
