Game of Thrones Finale had fans divided as some thought it was a pretty good season while others thought they could have written it way better. But in spite of that, fans do agree that Maisie Williams’ character, Arya Stark had some badass moments.
Spoiler Alert! One such moment was when Arya killed the Night King. Many fans as well as Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow, thought he would be the one doing the job.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Maisie revealed that Kit thought it would go that way. The actress revealed, “He even said, ‘It was going to go that way. Someone told me in season three that I was going to kill the Night King.’ And then, he read the script, and it was Arya the whole time.”
However, she expressed that it would have been too obvious if Jon killed the Night King. Maisie said she is glad it was her character, Arya who killed the Night King. The actor said she had the best storyline of the season finale.
Like Maisie, not all the characters were pleased with how their character’s ended in the finale. Lena Headey, who played Cersei Lannister, said she wanted a better death. In an interview with the UK’s The Guardian last year, she said, “Obviously you dream of your death. You could go in any way on that show.” The actress said she was gutted, however, she also said they could not have pleased everyone.
Lena went on and said no matter what they did, there was going to be some big comedown from the climb. However, Sophie Turner, who played the character of Sansa Stark, revealed that she was pleased with her character’s ending. Sansa was the queen of Winterfell at the end of the season.
Nikolaj Revealed He Almost Donated To The Petition
“I love the way that Sansa’s journey ended,” she said. “I think it was kind of the one thing that she wanted throughout the whole show…to be home and to be where she felt most safe and comfortable and that’s Winterfell. She’s totally capable of leading those people.”
It’s no secret that fans were disappointed with the final season of Game of Thrones. And one of the castmates has revealed that he almost donated to a petition of Game of Thrones. Nikolaj Coster Waldau has revealed that he was going to donate to a petition that asked for a different ending of Game of Thrones.
The actor revealed in an interview with Variety that he found it hilarious that fans were pushing for a different ending. But soon realized that everyone had their own opinion. ‘I was aware of the petition for a new ending, which I thought was hilarious,’ the 50-year-old talent said.
He said he almost decided to donate to the petition but found the idea hilarious that HBO will agree to say so many people want it so let’s do it. The actor said he found the fandom really interesting because everyone had their own opinion. He acknowledged people wanting different yet specific things to happen at the end.
‘There is Still a Massive Community Dedicated to Game of Thrones‘
Nikolaj also acknowledged how hard ending GOT must have been for hardcore fans who used to follow the series for years. He told Variety that it was a sort of combination of them imagining an ending and for them to not want the series to end. The actor said, ‘You lived with this for eight seasons. There is still a massive community dedicated to Game of Thrones. I think there was a real fear that was going to go away. It had to end.’
He was asked if he had any opinions about the way his character’s journey ended. Nikolaj said it was fine and said he should be asked this in ten years, then he can talk about it. He said, “How do you end that story? Let’s talk about this in 10 years, then you can talk about it. But now, I think it’s a little too recent.”
Fans had mixed reactions about the series finale and the majority of them it seems wanted a new GOT ending. The series received a 32 Emmy nominations. A change.org petition about wanting a different ending with competent writers. The petition’s description read, ‘David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.’
They went on to say the ending makes no sense and urges HBO for giving fans an ending the hit series deserves. The petition has over 1,800,000 signatures.
