Justice for Marwah- 5 year old Kidnapped, Raped, Torched and Murdered in Horrifying Incident

Twitter has been flooded with tweets and hashtags by enraged netizens demanding justice for Marwah. A five year old little girl who was kidnapped and raped before being brutally torched and murdered in the Essa Nagri area of the port city.

According to reports and PIB police station Station House Officer Shakir Husain, the five-year-old victim was first reported missing from the Old Sabzi Mandi area. Where she was reportedly abducted on Friday.

Marwah was reported missing until two days later, her body was found in a garbage heap on an empty plot in the same area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Marwah’s body was shifted to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre where a post-mortem examination was held. The autopsy report later revealed that the five year old victim had been sexually assaulted. The reports also revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head before her body was torched in garbage.

Suspects and Witnesses

The culprits behind this heinous crime have not yet been identified. However, according to sources, one person has been taken into custody for interrogation. The suspect’s DNA samples have been sent for examination to the lab in order to clarify his involvement in the monstrous incident. Police also revealed that the investigators were checking the mobile phone record of the arrested suspect. A shopkeeper who sold biscuits to the victim was also one of the witnesses when the girl went missing.

Protests

The kidnapping, rape and murder of the child angered residents of Karachi. Especially those belonging to Essa Nagri who staged a protest on the Main University Road, demanding justice for Marwah. Men, carrying sticks, were seen asking commuters to take alternative routes, since the main road from Hassan Square to New Town was closed for traffic. The protest is reported to have taken place after her burial in the morning.

PTI lawmaker Jamaluddin Siddiqi, who attended the protest revealed that SSP Investigation (East) Farrukh Ali had met with the protesters and told them that a man had been arrested in connection with the incident. Siddiqi said that he had requested the demonstrators to clear the road for traffic but they continued to protest against the brutal incident.

Recalling Zainab Ansari’s Brutal Murder

At the protest, demonstrators were seen urging people to demand justice for the victim. They also reminded bystanders of how the nation had come together for Zainab Ansari. A six year old girl who was abducted on her way to a Quran recital on 4 January 2018. Her body was also discovered discarded in a garbage disposal site in Kasur on 9 January. Reports revealed that Zainab was brutally raped and strangled to death. Zainab’s rapist and murderer was hanged to death in October 2018.

Zainab’s inhumane murder touched a nerve and ignited widespread protests as well as outrage in the country. People began raising questions over the safety and security of children while also questioning the responsibilities of concerned authorities in charge of preventing rising incidents of child abuse in Pakistan.

Earlier this year, the Senate approved the Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Bill, 2019, paving the way for the child protection legislation to become a law meant to ensure the protection of minors. A helpline has also been set up to report missing children. Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Agency (ZARRA) is an initiative established to issue an alert for a missing child.

According to the law, ZARRA will coordinate with all relevant federal and provincial authorities as well as law enforcement agencies. In order to maintain an online database of all children reported missing or abducted with their current status.

Marwah’s tragic murder has caused an uproar among netizens who have been trending #justiceformarwah all day long. Demanding justice for the five year old victim.

Popular social media personality and TV Host, Waqar Zaka also tweeted about the incident demanding Public hanging for child abusers.

“There should be virtual court system where judges take decision on cases appearing on social media after expert analysis, and I demand public hanging in child abuse cases, anyone against this, is certainly involved. #justiceformarwah,” he wrote.

One of Pakistan’s most popular actress’s Armeena Khan took to her social media platform, writing, “Raped and burnt. I’ve seen the image and it is beyond HORRIFIC. When will this stop?! #JusticeforMarwah

Fixit founder and Member of Parliament (MNA) Alamgir Khan also used his Social media platform to demand justice for the five year old and also pushed public hanging of the culprits.
