Introducing TrailerTime: The Hottest New Media Outlet Focusing on Trailer Commentary and Curation

TrailerTime is the innovative media company combining two massively popular types of content, trailers and video podcasts, in order to create a new type of show. TrailerTime, founded by Mohit Dangeti and Jamell Sirleaf, is a brand focused on promoting the newest television and movie trailers. Dangeti and Sirleaf spend time reviewing every new television show and movie trailers all while discussing the history and significance surrounding trailers in general as well as examining the DNA of what makes a compelling trailer, down to the genre level. With TrailerTime, television and movie enthusiasts now have a new style of content to entertain and inform them.

Dangeti and Sirleaf are not only providing hilarious as well as informative content, they are also brilliantly providing a solution for one of TV-and-movie-lovers’ biggest pain points, picking something to watch. Since the real-life college friends already spend every waking hour searching for and analyzing the newest trailers for the best new television shows and films, enthusiasts can go to TrailerTime’s Instagram or Youtube accounts in order to figure out what to watch next as well as stay up to date with the upcoming TV and movie releases. Instead of endlessly searching for something to consume, browsing through an unlimited amount of trailers, arguing with friends, and reading overly-prosey reviews by self-important industry writers, people can now go directly to TrailerTime in order to find the highest quality trailers for the newest and most anticipated content.

Beyond providing their consumers with the advantage of their own legwork and research, TrailerTime’s news-based yet comical trailer review show is highly entertaining in its own right. The TrailerTime founders’ belief that trailers are extremely captivating, led them to correct for this hole in the market by doubling down on trailers. Now Dangeti and Sirleaf are providing their viewers with a new show that is perfect to watch on its own — but you can still use it to help you decide what to watch on Netflix. Recalling the excitement they used to experience upon watching an unexpectedly thrilling trailer in the theater before a movie, Dangeti states, “I still get goosebumps watching amazing trailers even years after they come out.”

TrailerTime is a paradigmatic example of why creators should create content that they love. While TrailerTime is able to anticipate the momentum and viral capacity of a new trailer in order to capture the energy surrounding it and reach as many people as possible, the show’s secret sauce is more about the two hosts’ authentic camaraderie and their love for all things television and film. Dangeti’s and Sirleaf’s true friendship and sincere repartee bursts through every video and are infectious. These discussions about trailers, as well as the TV and movie industries at large, provide viewers with clever and compelling points they cannot find anywhere else.

More importantly, as Indian-American and African-American men, Dangeti and Sirleaf, are able to discuss perspectives and viewpoints that are typically overlooked in an industry that disproportionately hires white men. Dangeti and Sirleaf are able to break through the typical discourse by providing their communities, as well as other communities made up of people of color, a platform and a voice in the entertainment space. Further, they are able to speak to these communities about their interests and concerns directly. While some minority voices are finally gaining traction in the movie commentary space, Dangeti and Sirleaf are currently some of the only minority voices in the trailer review space.

Noting the lack of diversity in the trailer related content space, Dangeti also notes the lack of representation in movies themselves. Dangeti states, “Bollywood is so huge, but representation in American television and film is so small. That needs to change. I want it to change.”  The TrailerTime founders hope to inspire other minorities to create trailer related content as well as other creative content around the television and movie industries.

This is not a passing fancy for Dangeti and Sirleaf, both of whom have been engaged in a lifelong relationship with television and film. Film is both intrinsic to the DNA of all Indian people as well as the TrailerTime founders’ personal lives. Some of Dangeti’s earliest memories involve his father’s passion for film; Dangeti is on the record stating how his father’s admiration for television and movies had a formative influence on his own passions at an early age. Dangeti states, “Watching TV and movies have always been a family ordeal for as long as I can remember.” In his teenage years, Dangeti reinforced this love and did everything he could to learn as much about cinema as possible. He remembers convincing his high school English teacher to give him lessons on technical knowledge about directing, cinematography, and storytelling in their free time.

The college friends grew up during a time of great change for the industry, through the golden age of blockbuster films to the streaming revolution. They vividly remember having birthday parties and meeting up with friends at movie theaters to distract themselves from the boring drudgery of young adulthood and lose themselves in an epic story (and making sure to get there early in order to see all the new trailers). They also remember how the world of cinema opened up to enthusiasts in a way it never has before with the convenience of the streaming giants’ deep library of content. The two college friends will always have a fond spot in their heart for the era where consumers were at the whim of their local theater, but openly recognize how revolutionary streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBOMax, Hulu, et cetera are.

Not only is TrailerTime capturing the magical experience of surprise and anticipation upon watching a great trailer, but they are coupling it with honest feedback, thought-provoking conversations, and witty jokes. Dangeti’s and Sirleaf’s sincere friendship and deep obsession with the best new movies make them the perfect people to help movie-lovers re-experience their childhood excitement for new movies as well as provide information and entertainment for them about various movies.

TrailerTime’s ability to inform people about new movies by curating the most anticipated trailers, capture the magical surprise and anticipation of watching a great trailer, as well as entertain viewers with honest feedback, thought-provoking conversations, and hilarious commentary is exactly why they are gaining traction.
