Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) jumps head-first into the high school dating pond in the Never Have I Ever season 2 teaser. Never Have I Ever is a coming-of-age sitcom focusing on Devi, a first-generation Indian American high school student, and is partially based on creator Mindy Kaling’s youth.
Devi is followed as she develops a developing interest in boys and difficult friendships while balancing her academic overachievement. The storyline revolves around her tight relationship with her mother, Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan), which has only gotten worse since her father’s death (Sendhil Ramamurthy).
Devi’s Love Life
The first season of Never Have I Ever ended on a cliffhanger about Devi’s love life, which will be the focus of the second season. Devi is torn between two possible boyfriends, one of whom is her long-time crush Paxton (Darren Barnet) and the other of whom is her former rival Ben (Jarren Lewison). Eleanor (Ramona Young) and Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez) are her best friends who are always at her side, offering their own perspectives and adding a comic touch to the plot.
The new teaser for Never Have I Ever season 2 also shows off newcomer Dr. Chris Jackson, who is played by Common. However, a possible cameo from Kaling, which many fans are hoping for given her personal connection to the story, is still up in the air.
While the first season of Never Have I Ever exposed viewers to Devi’s unique personality and complicated family life, season two appears to be all about Devi’s development and shattering notions of who she should be. Devi’s future evolution during the new season of Never Have I Ever will be even more meaningful to see now that fans have formed a relationship with her after season one.
