Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich End Engagement After 6 Months Of Dating: ‘It Was a Tough Decision,’ Says Source

Demi Lovato’s whirlwind romance with The “Young and the Restless” actor Max Ehrich has reportedly come to an end. A source close to the couple confirmed that the “Ok Not To Be Ok” singer and her fiancé have “called off their engagement.”

“It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers,” the source said. “They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together.”

“Demi and Max were basically together 24/7 for months,” the source continued. “They lived in a bubble with zero stress, and everything was just fun. Now they are both working and are on separate coasts.” According to their social media, Ehrich is currently in Georgia filming for his new movie, Southern Gospel, while Lovato is busy promoting her new single with Marshmello.

Another insider mentioned how the distance “put a strain” on their relationship and was causing them to have conflicts. “Max shot up in fame, and it’s been hard. He got wrapped up in [Hollywood].”

Although their breakup is the last thing Lovato envisioned happening, a source close to the singer says she’s been “doing okay” and that the split “is a good thing.”

“People close to Demi have expressed that they are worried and are hesitant about Max”

Speculations and rumours surrounding their breakup have been making rounds earlier in the day when a source hinted at their relationship status. ‘It’s not over yet… But it’s on its way there.’ According to sources and insiders, Demi’s sister, Dallas Lovato and her bodyguard, unfollowed Max on Instagram. Moreover, fans had been noticing that the couple were not engaging in liking or commenting on each other’s recent social media posts. What’s more, just after her engagement, Demi’s confidantes and close friends had expressed their doubts about Max’s intentions. An insider explained, “People close to Demi have expressed that they are worried and are hesitant about Max.”

Neither Max nor Demi have publicly addressed the split yet and it’s still unknown when they decided to call it quits.

“I knew that I loved you the moment I met you”

Demi and Max have had a whirlwind romance that started in March just before the coronavirus pandemic began. News of their split comes two months after Ehrich popped the question to Demi in a gorgeous beachside proposal in Malibu on July 22. Following the romantic engagement, Lovato wrote that she said “yes” to the person who made her want to “to be the best version” of herself. Adding, “I knew that I loved you the moment I met you.”

The “Sorry Not Sorry” Singer even recently commemorated the couple’s six-month anniversary at the beginning of September. Demi posted a video of Max playing with their puppies on her Instagram Story and wrote a sentimental note over the clip.

“Happy 6 months to my darling, the best father these pups could ever ask for. I love you BEYOND. Thank you for making my life so much better @maxehrich ???????????? I love you baby ????????????,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Words fall short, baby. Love you infinitely & then some. Thank you for being the light of my life. ❤️ Cheers to forever ????,” added Ehrich.

“Quarantine accelerated our relationship on a level that you can’t really explain to people”

On September 14, during an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, Demi revealed that her romance with Max was pretty much love at first sight. “We started dating. We immediately went into quarantine. I knew I loved him the night I met him. So a week later we went into quarantine. I was like, ‘Look, we’re quarantining together. Um, cause I love you.’” As for how quarantining affected their dynamic, Demi said that it “accelerated [their] relationship on a level that you can’t really explain to people.”

“Quarantine either makes or breaks the deal,” she said at the time. “And it really made that. So I’m really blessed, really fortunate, and continuing to count my blessings every day.”

#MaxEhrichisOverParty Tweets

The couple’s separation also comes just 10 days after Lovato slammed alleged tweets by Ehrich professing his love for Selena Gomez that went viral. Twitter Screenshots made rounds on the platform as the hashtag #MaxEhrichisOverParty was trending.

One of Max’s fake tweets read, ‘Hahaha selena gomez and demi are cute together, but boy if you think demi is prettier…you’re WRONG!.’ Gomez is, clearly, a touchy subject for Demi, since the former close friends have endured a rocky relationship since rising to fame on the Disney Channel in the mid-2000s.

A lot of the screenshots included Max talking about wanting to date several celebrities including fellow Disney starlets Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande apart from Selena Gomez.

“It’s really sad when people FAKE images to put women against each other”

However, Demi came to her fiancé’s defense in her Instagram Stories. The singer clapped back against the supposed evidence, dismissing any speculations and suggested that the resurfaced comments and posts were actually fake.

“It’s really sad when people FAKE images to put women against each other,” Demi vented in an Instagram Story post on Sept. 13. She later wrote, “If women have conflict that’s between them NOT YOU. Secondly, don’t y’all have more important sh*t to write about in 2020??? I challenge any tabloid that dares to type my name to mention Breonna Taylor and the fact that her murderers still haven’t been arrested. WRITE ABOUT THAT.”

“So while on one hand I understand and have compassion for those who are so horrified at the reality of 2020 that they gotta distract themselves with doctored images in order to not focus on how bad these times are. But on the other hand, if you aren’t 13 years old trying to grasp the reality of right now, put on your adult underpants and write about what actually matters,” she added. “Please.”

According to sources, Lovato had actually been “so excited to get married.” The Insider continued, “She’s got all the wedding magazines and she’s having so much fun pulling ideas,” they added. “(Demi’s) not in any rush and will take her time planning, but she’s very excited and didn’t waste any time getting started.”
