Bridgerton Cast Talks About Season 2 At SAG Awards

When it comes to Bridgerton, there is a lot of things to look forward to. The Netflix hit series is heading to its second season.

Its stars and Screen Actors Guild Awards nominees Luke Thompson, Will Tilston, Florence Hunt, and Polly Walker teased what we should look forward to. They were speaking with Jeremy Parsons and Janine Rubenstein who were the hosts of the pre-show.

Luke shared that all the books and the relationships in the series have been adapted in the first season. However, he revealed that Julia Quinn, who is the author of Bridgerton, has told the writers can have fun with it. He said, “With all the books and the relationships in the series, I think [author] Julia Quinn has always been sort of saying the books are the starting point and the writers can have fun around it.”

The actor plays Benedict Bridgerton in the hit series. He further shared that season 2 will be following the book when it comes to Anthony Bridgerton’s love story. Luke revealed that the main structure is the book but the writers are having a bit of fun on their own. The actor, 32, added, “There are always adjustments and twists and changes, so I’m sure that will carry on.”

Meanwhile, Florence, who played Hyacinth Bridgerton added that the series creator Chris Van Dusen is “amazing”. She shared that he will do something amazing with the source material for season 2. The stars of Bridgerton are nominated for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series at the SAG Awards.

“And after everything that’s happened, it’s been really [good].”

Rege-Jean Page is up for best actor in a drama series. Bridgerton premiered last December and has roped in a number of fans and critics alike. The Netflix hit is based on  Julia’s book series with the same name. Season 1 of the period drama revolved around Daphne Bridgerton played by Phoebe Dynevor. She had difficulty finding love after her debut in London high society. However, the character stirred up a plan with Simon Bassett, played by Rege, to attract more suitors.

Netflix renewed Bridgerton for a second season in January. The new season will revolve around Lord Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey, as he tries to find a wife. Simone Ashley has been cast as his love interest, Kate Sharma.

Luke revealed that it is “lovely” to be back and to have a job after this year. He further shared that it is brilliant and nice to throw themselves back in and see everyone again. The actor said, “And after everything that’s happened, it’s been really [good]. We’ve had a read-through [of the season with the cast]. It’s just lovely to see everyone.”

Unfortunately, one of the stars will be missing from the show. On Friday, Netflix announced that Rege will not be returning for the second season. But his costar Phoebe will be reprising her role. “The ride of a lifetime. It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke,” Page wrote on Instagram. “Joining this family — not just on-screen, but off-screen too. Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans — it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined. The love is real and will just keep growing.”
