What Was Planned For GOTG One-Shot Prequels? James Gunn Reveals

James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, has disclosed details about the short films that will introduce each member of the team before the film’s premiere.

For the first time, Gunn’s 2014 picture introduced audiences to the then-unknown squad of space-faring heroes. Guardians of the Galaxy was 2014’s most popular superhero film, with both reviewers and audiences praising Gunn’s director, writing, and soundtrack.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Star-Lord, a.k.a. Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana), warrior Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), and bounty hunter Rocker Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), as well as his muscle/houseplant Groot, were introduced to audiences in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (Vin Diesel).

As they fought to keep the power stone from falling into the wrong hands, the trio of heroes outran Ravagers, Kree zealots, and cosmic collectors. The crew has now expanded, with empath Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Marvel’s powerful cosmic hero Adam Warlock, played by Bandersnatch and The Maze Runner star Will Poulter, joining the ranks.

Gunn shared a Screen Rant story on the intended one-shot prequels on his own Twitter before commenting on what they would contain. The Groot & Rocket short was partially filmed, according to Gunn, with footage being shown at San Diego Comic-Con.

Each short would have aired before each Marvel film that came before Guardians of the Galaxy to introduce the characters to the audience. The one-shots, on the other hand, were discontinued due to the ridiculousness of the project. The meeting of Rocket and Groot would have been depicted in Rocket & Groot’s short, while the backstory of Quill would have been shown in Quill’s.
