James Gunn confirms that a season 2 of Peacemaker is still in the works

Peacemaker season 2 will be produced by James Gunn, who is still on board. Peacemaker is the first spin-off from Gunn’s DCEU debut, The Suicide Squad. It follows John Cena’s titular antihero, Christopher Smith.

Peacemaker was shown to have killed in The Suicide Squad, but he was revealed to be alive during the film’s post-credits sequence, though in a coma. Now, the character, who has been characterised as a “douchey” version of Captain America, will return to action in his own HBO Max series, which will premiere in January 2022.

Season 1 Is All Set

The plot specifics for Peacemaker are quite slim. According to what is known about the show, the plot revolves around the character’s adventure as he joins Jennifer Holland’s Emilia, Steve Agee’s John, Robert Patrick’s Auggie, Chukwudi Iwuji’s Murn, Danielle Brooks’ Leota, and Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante to aid a black ops team prevent a disaster.

Peacemaker is now set for an eight-episode run on HBO Max. Gunn, on the other hand, is devoted to producing further seasons if given the chance.

The multi-hyphenate writer-director-producer previously revealed that he has been saving up a mystery character for a possible second season of Peacemaker, and he has now underlined his interest in continuing the series.

“I’d like to produce a second season”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Monday, James Gunn stated that he was open to making future seasons of Peacemaker. Suicide Squad director David Ayer has stated that he is open to a second season as long as the first is well-received.

Warner Bros. also needs to tell Gunn that they want to see more content, according to Gunn “I’d like to produce a second season. All they have to do now is tell me they want to do it.”

While the idea of a second season for Peacemaker is exciting, fans should be aware that nothing has been confirmed. In fact, even if Peacemaker gets renewed, the wait for season 2 would be painfully lengthy, as Gunn will be busy on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the better part of 2022.

As a result, he won’t be able to start working on a new season until late next year at the earliest, hinting that the show won’t premiere before mid-2023. At this time, the focus should be on season 1, which will be discussed further at the upcoming DC FanDome.
