So at this point, you’ve heard of Coachella. However if you don’t even know what exactly happening there. You must have seen the elaborate bohemian fashion there. You’ve heard of singer and artists who are headlining. And you’ve looked at Instagram snaps of celebrities living their best lives out in the sun. But you still may ask What Is Coachella?
Apparently, Coachella is a giant annual music festival held in California. Also, may heard ‘Colorado Desert in the Coachella Valley of Indio, California’. It started in year 1999 and has grown tremendously. Likewise, it is more than just a weekend to listen good music.
When is Coachella?
Coachella 2022 will take place over two weekends and the official dates are April 15-17 and April 22-24, 2022.
Its expected that other big singers perform during this year’s festival. This includes- Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Swedish House Mafia, and The Weeknd. As well as top names including Megan Thee Stallion, Flume, Danny Elfman, Big Sean, Lil Baby, Doja Cat, and Fatboy Slim.
The Canadian singer- Justin Bieber crashed the festivities on April 15 for surprise performance of Peaches with friend Daniel Caesar. Indeed, Justin Bieber came on the opening night of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Earlier also many artists include: Rage Against the Machine, Thom Yorke, Lana Del Rey, Lil Uzi Vert, FKA twigs, DaBaby, Run the Jewels, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Nas X, City Girls, King Gizzard performed.
What’s the History?
Interestingly, Coachella started out as an alternative-act, almost underground fest that was affordable for the average attendee who didn’t mind a little grit. Since it has expanded to larger audience and attended by almost moneyed fans who prefer their creature comforts (hence the nearly-$10K tents).
Though it started out as an (1999’s headliners included Beck, Morrissey, Moby, Ben Harper and Pavement), . That said, there’s still some of the old in with the new: Rage Against the Machine also headlined in 1999.
After Pearl Jam tried bucking Ticket Master’s iron grip on the live show industry in 1993 by performing at the Polo Club, the site proved to be a solid attractant for large acts. In 1999, the inaugural Coachella Fest kicked off, then returned two years later as a singe-day event. It’s gone back and forth between a two-day and three-day event since then; campers have been allowed since 2003.
