Tom Hardy Is Willing To Do Anything For A Venom & Spider-Man Crossover

Recently, Tom Hardy has revealed he would do anything to make a Venom and Spider-Man crossover happen. The actor’s first Venom film was in 2018 where we saw Eddie Brock become the host to the alien symbiote, Venom. He was struggling with his newfound powers initially.

But the character eventually comes face to face with Riot and defeats the evil symbiote. A post-credit scene of the movie had introduced Eddie Brock to Cletus Kassady. The latter vowed to escape and open the “carnage” and set up the movie’s sequel. This will be the highly anticipated venture, Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Spider-Man and Venom had previously shared the screen in Spider-Man 3 by Sam Raimi. But unfortunately, the venture did not please the audience. Spider-Man was portrayed by Andrew Garfield for two films before the franchise was rebooted yet again with Tom Holland. Tom’s Spider-Man was introduced in the superhit Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War.

This meant that Tom’s Spider-Man will appear in the films with the other Avengers. But Venom existed as part of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC). This is a different cinematic universe and includes properties like Mobius and Kraven the Hunter.

Tom Hardy talked about the sequel in a recent interview with Esquire. He briefly touched upon his opinion on a future crossover movie between Venom and Spider-Man. The actor was extremely excited about the opportunity even though there being many business obstacles in the way. He seemed excited to possibly appear alongside MCU’s Spider-Man.

Tom Agrees To It Being “A Large Canyon To Leap”

Hardy said,

“Should both sides be willing, and it be beneficial to both sides, I don’t see why it couldn’t be. I hope and strongly, with both hands, push, eagerly, towards that potential, and would do anything to make that happen, within what’s right in business. But it would be foolish not to head towards the Olympic Games if you were running 100 metres, so yeah! I want to play on that field.”

Tom is on board but when we think about putting the two together in the same movie, it is not that simple. For instance, putting Spider-Man and Captain Marvel in the same venture because of the legality surrounding the SPUMC and MCU entities. After what happened in Amazing Spider-Man 2, both Sony Pictures and Marvel would need to sit down and come to an agreement about how Venom can appear with MCU characters.

But Hardy already recognizes the difficulties and said that it is “a large canyon to leap”. He added that it would take a higher level of diplomacy and intelligence. However, if legally everything is figured out a crossover between Hardy’s Venom and Holland’s Spider-Man could happen. It will definitely make up for the disappointment fans felt at the Spider-Man and Venom storyline in Spider-Man 3.

Sam Raimi, who was the director has himself revealed that he did not want Venom in Spider-Man 3 but was forced to include the villain by the studio. But with people loving Hardy’s Venom and Holland’s Spider-Man, this crossover now could fare far better than before. Would you want a crossover between Hardy’s Venom and Holland’s Spider-Man?
