Things Are Getting Heated In The Phoenix Suns!

The Phoenix Suns are now at a quite awkward situation. Their attempt to trade Deandre Ayton did not fall through after the masses started criticizing them for trying to trade such a valuable piece in their franchise. It looked like the Indiana Pacers would be getting the big man but the Suns matched their offer sheet at the end.

The Suns locker room woes

Now Ayton is still in the locker room and the Suns are now entering into the next season with him in the roster. That surely is to mess up their chemistry a bit. Of course not in a disastrous way but surely at least someone is going to say, “ Hey Ayton! Remember the time we almost traded you?”

Not to make things more awkward but Chris Paul and Devin Booker were already moving on from Ayton once it was said that he might be traded. They did try and stop the franchise at first, but somewhere along the way they accepted that fate. They might seem amicable at first but the tension in the locker room is sure to be sky high.

The series that started the drift

Monty Williams who is the coach responsible for sitting Ayton down during their Game 7 in the second round of playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks. The Suns ended up losing the series and all blame had shifted towards Ayton for not playing aggressive enough. Of course it was coach Williams who had spread the word that Ayton was not playing at his best against the Mavericks as Luka was clearly dominating him.

Not to point fingers but Luka did dominate all the Suns main players in their respective categories. He outscored, Suns’ primary scorer, Devin Booker. He outassisted Suns’ control tower, Chris Paul and finally he outrebounded, Suns’ Center, Deandre Ayton. Luka made sure he humiliated the former Western Conference Champions.

It was because of that series that everything is going wrong right now in Phoenix. Trading Deandre Ayton was a failure. On the bright side they retained some of their role players but the center position is just upto Ayton for now.

Ayton did play well in the regular season as he ended the season with a double-double of 17.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He had a good playoff run, the year they went all the way to the Finals. But last playoffs was a disaster as he just put up 17.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Just as Monty Williams said, Ayton is not physical enough. If he overcomes this problem in the upcoming season, the Suns will be back into championship contention. This is a trying time for the Suns after all.
