Tesla Hiring Legal And External Relations Managers In China To Avoid Crackdowns

Elon Musk’s Tesla has been under the radar of Chinese authorities off late. With a strict macro environment to function in, Tesla is getting ready to defend itself against any potential crackdowns on its Chinese operations.

The official WeChat account of Tesla showed that they are hiring for new positions in their legal and external relations team. The company has been facing a lot of customer service, privacy, and safety complaints in the past few months in China.

Roles And Responsibility

The external relations manager post is open in many Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. Tesla has its factory in Shanghai where it manufactures the Model 3 sedans and Model Y sport-utility EVs.

The new job openings are expected to lobby with the government and insiders of Tesla say that the company is getting involved in discussions with the government and building a relations team that will manage all the affairs related to government scrutiny and compliance.

Other Job Openings

US-based Tesla is also looking for attorneys who specialize in construction, anti-monopoly and data privacy protection laws and PR managers.

Tesla faced a lot of resentment and gained negative PR in China when an unsatisfied customer created a ruckus at the Shanghai auto show standing on top of his Tesla car in protest. The customer’s complaint not being addressed appropriately prompted this action.

Tesla’s China Operations

The number of car deliveries that Tesla has been doing in China is growing each quarter. In July, the electric car manufacturer sold close to 33,000 vehicles.

Yuan Guohua, a official in the area where Tesla’s factory is located, said on Tuesday that the factory is expected to product 450,000 vehicles this year, including 66,100 units for export, China’s state Xinhua news agency reported. (Source: Reuters)
