PBKS vs CSK, 11th Match (N), Brabourne, Apr 3 2022, Indian Premier League

Match Result: Punjab Kings won by 54 runs

Player of the Match: Liam Livingstone

Match Report: Third successive defeat for Chennai Super Kings. Third successive failure for the orange cap holder of previous edition – Ruturaj Gaikwad. It’s safe to say that CSK have not started their campaign the way they would have wished for. The absence of Deepak Chahar is felt desperately. Though Chennai Super Kings made a terrific comeback in the death overs, the target was still a mountain to climb. Liam Livingstone scored his maiden IPL fifty. We all know how dangerous Livingstone can be. It was just a matter of time before he converted his capability into performance. Those sixes were scary for the opposition. As a bowler, getting hit for such a massive six of 108 meters must have been shattering. Dhawan played a good knock too, giving a good start.

Debutant Jitesh Sharma had an interesting approach. He kept swinging his bat hard. It was as if he forgot that he can hit fours too. He hit 3 sixes before going for a fourth one and handing out a dolly. In reply, CSK had worst of possible starts. They lost early wickets, losing four of them inside the powerplay. And in their whole innings, it never looked like they posed a threat to chase down the total. MS Dhoni and low strike rate go hand in hand since 2018. Everyone knows that, we are just stating it. Shivam Dube looked good during his stay. He batted nicely for his 57. Livingstone took blinder of a catch to dismiss Dwayne Bravo. It’s gonna be a tough journey for CSK ahead. For PBKS, it will give them a nice boost in confidence.

Agarwal, PBKS captain: We were thinking we were 5-7 short, but we knew chasing 180 wasn’t going to be easy, especially if we took wickets with the new ball and that’s exactly what we did. Winning that part of the game won us the game. (Told Livingstone) Nothing. Everyone holds their breath when he is batting. Some of the shots he hits are spectacular. Vaibhav was with us a couple of years back .. saw the talent there. He’s different, he’s young and has got some good skills. With Jitesh, Anil bhai had seen him when he was in MI. He said we’ve got to get this kid. He’s got good intent. Standout thing about him is his attitude.

Ravindra Jadeja: We lost too many wickets in the powerplay, we didn’t find the momentum from ball one. We need to find a way to get better and come back stronger. (On Gaikwad) We need to give him confidence, we need to back him, we all know that he’s a very good player. We’ll definitely back him and I am sure that he’ll come good. He (Dube) has been batting so well, he batted well today, keeping him in a good frame of mind would be the key. Definitely we’ll try our best, work hard and come back stronger.
