Stephen Curry Lends His Support To Russell Westbrook Amidst Attacks From Fans

Stephen Curry and Russell Westbrook are two extraordinary point guards from this generation of basketball players. Both players have played on the highest stage in the Finals, and without an iota of doubt they’ll go down in history as greats of the sport.

Recently, Russell Westbrook has been receiving of a lot of criticism from fans and analysts alike. A lot of fans have used the nickname “Westbrick” to berate him during games, and Russell Westbrook has spoken out against that, claiming that the nickname disrespects his family name.

It’s easy to understand why Russell Westbrook is upset at fans for using the nickname, and it can definitely be perceived as disrespectful.

“I’m Proud Of The Way He’s Conducting Himself, And I’m There For Him”- Stephen Curry

In an interview with Yahoo Sports, Stephen Curry broke his silence on the hatred that Russell Westbrook has been receiving;

Stephen supports Russell Westbrook by saying, “I told him when we played them in L.A. a couple of days ago that I respect how he’s handled the whole year, just in terms of everything he’s been saying and how he’s been handling himself and protecting his family, It is the nature of the beast. And in a certain perspective, they build you up to break you down. The real ones who have done amazing things in this league know what that means. He’s a professional, and I’m proud of the way he’s conducting himself, and I’m there for him.”

Stephen added, “The fan perspective, it is kind of B.S. when it crosses the line in terms of attacking somebody personally, their name, and not keeping it to just basketball, That’s why we’re all here is because of basketball. But at the end of the day, you have to do what you have to do to speak up for yourself and also understand that the guys that know what’s going on in this league respect the type of player he is. Russ definitely has my support.”

Even if Russell is out of his prime, he is still a very good player. Even though his fit with the Los Angeles Lakers roster has been an issue, the team also has other problems, such as lack of defense and good depth.

Russell Westbrook had a very good game against the Houston Rockets recently, though the Los Angeles Lakers lost the game. Perhaps we’ll see that continue, and there’s no doubt that Westbrook is still capable of putting up some impactful performances and help his team to qualify for the playoffs.
