Sia Apologizes For Mixing Up Cardi B & Nicki Minaj

Sia apologizes after mixing up Nicki Minaj for Cardi B on Twitter.

The confusion began when Sia responded to a fan’s question. The user asked Sia if she would like to work with Nicki Minaj with an image of Minaj as well.

The Aussie pop singer said she would love to work with Cardi B, mixing up Minaj for Cardi.

“I love @iamcardib, Sia tweeted in response, referring to a different Black female rapper. “I would love to collab with her any day.”

After confusing Minaj for the ‘Bodak Yellow’ hit maker, Sia received a lot of criticism.

The hashtag #Siaisoverparty started trending. One of the users told Sia to move that hair off of her face and see clearly. And another urged her to delete her tweet.

While it was not her intention, many accused Sia of trying to reignite the ongoing tension between the performers and already-feuding fandoms.

Sia defends herself

The since-deleted tweet got a lot of attention. Few Twitter users said Sia is a “racist” before she eventually apologized on the platform.

Before apologizing for the mix up, Sia defended herself in a since-deleted series of tweets. She suggested that Cardi B, 27, and Nicki Minaj, would not mind her mistake. She told people to focus on real issues.

“You think @iamcardib and @NickiMinaj are so petty that they would want you focusing on a silly feud instead of real news?” tweeted the Chandelier singer on Friday.

She went on in a thread of tweets saying how she did not care about feuds. Sia went on to emphasize George Floyd, Breonna Taylor was murdered. And that everyone should rise in unity to fight racism.

The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and other Black individuals, including Ahmaud Arbery, have helped renew calls to fight systemic racism and put an end to police brutality across the world.

Sia then tagged Cardi B and Nicki Minaj asking them if they cared about feuding right now. She urged that “we” are focusing on systemtic racism.

In protest to her tweets, many users suggested that Sia was simply using the protests to “silence people calling her out” for allegedly being “racist.”

People accused the singer of using the death of George Floyd to cover up her racist act.

Sia’s apology

Sia deleted all those tweets and issued an apology.

“I totally misunderstood a tweet earlier that has resulted in me making a buffoon out of myself,” the Cheap Thrills singer wrote. “Sorry @NickiMinaj and @iamcardib, if you hear about it. Can I just like you both?” she added.

Last month, Sia gave everybody a shock when she announced that she adopted two 18-year-old sons. She claimed to have adopted them last year.

Speaking to SiriusXM on Tuesday, Sia said the boys were ‘aging out of the foster care system’ when she decided to become their legal guardian.

Sia later gushed that she loved her new family. She went on to say how quarantining is pretty difficult for them. But she says they are doing “educational stuff”.

The Adelaide-born singer did not reveal their names nor discuss them further.
