Mendes has released a new song called It’ll Be Okay, almost two weeks after their breakup.

The sad ballad deals with the aftermath of a breakup and how to get back on your feet after all of the pain and hurt.

Fans have believed that Shawn is expressing his gloomy mood with the new song. “Are we going to make it?/ Is this going to hurt?” he asks in the song’s lyrics, which appear to be about breaking up with a lover. “I start to picture a future where we don’t clash/ It makes me sick, but we’ll heal and the sun will rise,” and “I start to imagine a world where we don’t collide.”

Mendes also sings the words “I will love you either way” in another verse of the song, which appears to be a big hint regarding his relationship with Camila. Despite their divorce, the two stated that they will remain “best friends” in their statement. Shawn and Camila had been close friends for nearly seven years before they started dating.

Shawn had teased his new music on Instagram ahead of its release, writing, “It feels like I haven’t truly connected with you guys in a while. I miss you I hope you love this song.”

His followers have been giving him supportive messages since his split, and the sad song appears to have already struck a chord with them.
