Selena Gomez Reveals She Voted For The First Time

Selena Gomez had taken to her Instagram five days ago to inform her fans that she has voted. The singer wrote that she just finished out her ballot and was wearing the “I VOTED” sticker.

The Rare Beauty founder joined a Voting Power Hour YouTube Stream on October 27 with Loud Luxury where she took the opportunity to communicate with her fans. One fan asked her about her first voting experience.

Selena responded saying she is not ashamed to admit that it was the first time she voted. She said she never voted because she never felt like her vote counts however, she is admitting to people that her vote does count. The singer said, “Like, every little thing counts, so I just think some people get in their head, and they’re like, ‘Oh well, what does it matter?’ And then once I really, really started going in and diving into this, it’s been all I can focus on.”

The actress was keen on voting this year and expressed how excited she was to cast her vote. However, she was also focusing on being safe amid the coronavirus pandemic as she chose to mail her California ballot instead of voting in person.

She said she had to do it and admitted she would have preferred to do it in person. Although she said she needs to be safe no matter what. The Look At Her Now singer has been vocal about her health issues previously which includes her Lupus diagnosis which resulted in a kidney transplant in 2017.

Gomez Narrates Whose Vote Counts Explained Series

Selena has also been an advocate for voter registration and education when it comes to election. She is also serving as co-chair in Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote initiative. The actress recently narrated an episode of Netflix’s Whose Vote Counts Explained series.

The series talks about voter suppression, the influence of money in elections; and how one can fix the electoral system so that everybody gets to vote and they can vote equally. Although the singer has not openly admitted to endorsing one particular candidate for the presidential election, she has made it pretty clear on an Instagram Live.

The star had hosted an Instagram live with Timothee Chalamet as the two made it pretty clear they weren’t rooting for Donald Trump to get back into the office. Timothee was heard saying how he hopes this “guy” does not win and Selena shares his sentiments.

Selena revealed during the Power Hour Live stream that her activism does not just limit to her social media. The singer revealed she also asks people if they are registered to vote on the set of her various projects.

Selena revealed that she had to do a few music videos this year and shared the hysterical experience on set. She explained that she would walk in and she is the nicest person but she said she looked at everyone and asked if everyone has registered to vote. The actress said, “I looked at everyone and said, ‘Is everyone registered to vote?’ And like they all paused, giving me like a [look].”

The singer demonstrated how they look at her and then shared that she asks them again. And when they say they have she thanks them and tells them they can continue with the shoot.
