Sandra Oh Reveals If She Would Return To ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ As Show Is Renewed For Season 18

Grey’s Anatomy has just been renewed for the 18th season. Eight years later, Sandra Oh reveals if she will come back to play her fan-favorite character, Cristina Yang.

The actress straight away refused when asked if she would return to the show. However, she shared that she loves it and this is why she appreciates the show. The Killing Eve alum said,  “I love it, though, and this is also why I really appreciate the show … that I still get asked this.”

Sandra played the character of Cristina for the first 10 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. She quit the show in the season 10 finale. Cristina is, however, still a part of that world as her name is mentioned time after time. The character is working in Switzerland when it comes to Grey’s Anatomy universe.

The ABC show is the most popular series to this day. Even if there is a lot of love for Cristina Yang, Sandra has moved on. She revealed how rare it is to be able to see the impact of a character in such a way. The actress said, “In some ways, you do your work as a bubble and you let it go. I left that show, my God, seven years ago almost. So in my mind, it’s gone. But for a lot of people, it’s still very much alive. And while I understand and I love it, I have moved on.”

The speculation of her character being brought back was revisited after the latest season brought back fan-favorite characters. This included Patrick Dempsey, T.R. Knight, Chyler Leigh, and Eric Dane. Their characters Derek, George, Lexie, and Mark appeared on the beach in Meredith’s dreams as she was in a coma amid her battle with COVID-19.

Fans also saw a glimpse of Cristina’s presence as she was texting Owen to get updates on Meredith’s condition. The fans took this as a hint that the character might come back again like the rest of them. Grey’s Anatomy has become the longest-running medical drama in TV history. After lengthy negotiations, the show has been renewed with stars Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. signed new deals.

The leading lady has reportedly secured another salary hike in her latest contract. She became the highest-paid actress on television in 2017 when she signed the new deal. The actress earned $20 million a year at that time but now she has crossed that mark too. Meanwhile, Chandra and James have also received hikes for their new season. Grey’s Anatomy is currently airing its 17th season.
