The Dallas Mavericks have claimed the 4th seed in the Western Conference. Thanks to the efforts of Luka Doncic and him getting his teammates on a roll has been the reason for the Mavericks success. They finished the regular season with a record of 52-30, falling just a game away from the Golden State Warriors.
Meet the players
Luka Doncic has continued to prove his dominance on the court. He can literally do anything despitenot being athletically gifted. He can shoot the 3, slash for a contested layup, make free throws, put his teammates to their best position to shoot and defend as well. He has averaged 28.4 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 8.7 apg and 1.2 spg.
After Kristaps Porzingis’ departure from the team, there isn’t anybody who is the main secondary scorer but they have role players who can get a bucket. Jalen Brunson has emerged as a reliable scorer who is inconsistent but can get you a bucket. He has put up 16.3 ppg aong with 4.3 apg in the season.
Tim Hardaway Jr. also provides with steady offence and can sometimes take over a game as we have seen in a few occasions this season. He is putting up solid numbers of 14.2 ppg. Dorian Finney-Smith provides scoring as well going for 11 ppg.
Spencer Dinwiddie who was acquired from the Wizards has shown his ability on the court and meshed well with the Mavericks roster. Ever since his arrival, he is putting up 15.8 ppg, 3.9 apg and 3.1 rpg. Their head coach Jason Kidd has done a brilliant job of creating lineups and putting pieces that would bring out the best of the Dallas Mavericks.
Looking at their playoff possibilities, they will go against the Utah Jazz in the first round. The Jazz will try to take advantage of the Mavericks’ weak interior but on the other hand they cannot stop their offence. It will be a tough matchup which will be decided in 6-7 games.
If the Mavericks move to the next round, they will go against the Phoenix Suns or the team among the Pelicans, Spurs, Clippers or Timberwolves. Apart from the rest, beating Phoenix is near impossibility for the Mavericks as they haven’t reached that ceiling yet.
If by some luck they reach the Western Conference Finals, then they will go against the Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies or the Denver Nuggets. Beating any of these teams willrequire a herculean effort from the Mavericks and it is not sure if they would beat them then as well.
In the Finals, they will go against the victor of the Eastern Conference and it is not sure whether they will be able to beat any team coming from that side due to how competitive the East is at the moment. Facing the top team in the East will be a trial for the Mavericks
The Mavericks have a long tough road ahead of them and with Luka’s injury it is not sure whether they will make it or break it. They won’t be able to go head to head with any team if Luka does not show up and the Mavericks front office is praying for Luka’s speedy recovery.
