Netflix Series Bridgerton Denied Permission To Build Its Set In Windsor Park
Councilors have refused permission to make a film set at Windsor for the Netflix series Bridgerton.
Producers for the popular drama had wanted to build a set on Crown Estate land in Sunninghill Park to use over a five-year period.
Bridgerton is a very popular Netflix show.
Improper Development Of The Green Belt
Although sanctioned by the Royal, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council dismissed it as “an improper development of the green belt”.
The set would see scaffolding with spaces used to build the London Regency square and would be used for more than five summer recordings.
Car parking and other temporary cabinet dressing and dining facilities were also to be established, the meeting was announced on Wednesday.
Why Did Bridgerton Not Get Approval?
Council officials praised the rejection of the set, near the ancient forest, saying it would “damage the rural environment of the area”.
They also mentioned that there is “insufficient information” to ensure that protected species will not be seriously disturbed.
Speaking at a public meeting at the Maidenhead Holiday Inn, Patrick Griffin of CPRE Berkshire said the set would “emerge abnormally in this area” and become a “rural disruption”.
Councilor Sayonara Luxton explained that the Crown Estate-backed application would not be in front of councilors without “approval from Her Majesty” and that the borough’s local shops and hotels would also benefit.
Councilor Andrew Johnson, council leader, echoed his sentiments: “The clear economic benefits of this application far outweigh any potential short-term damage to the greenbelt.”
However councilors voted 7-2. to support the recommendations of the refusal of Bridgerton’s application.
Regé-Jean’s Bridgerton Exit
In April it was announced that actor Regé-Jean Page, who played the role of the extremely attractive Duke, will not be playing his role in the second season of the popular Netflix drama, “Bridgerton.”
This sad news for some has come in the form of a note from the show’s character Lady Whistledown, posted on the verified Twitter account of “Bridgerton”.
“Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” the announcement read. “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.”
Page was one of the artists who came out shining of the show and recently won the NAACP award for his role as the Emperor.
