According to Deadline, Netflix is in the early stages of planning a massive back-to-back shoot for Red Notice 2 and 3. The first Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, was the most successful original film ever on Netflix.
Rawson, director Marshall Thurber, who directed the original picture, is set to return for the sequels, which are set to begin production in early 2023. He has started writing. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Thurber hinted at a back-to-back production for the sequels, calling it the “responsible thing to do.” “It’s such a big production, and if you can put it on just once, it’ll be better for everyone,” he’d remarked. This includes my mental health.”
The sequels are being set up to include fresh actors, according to the Deadline article, which will eventually lead to an Ocean’s style squad. According to THR, the first film’s three leads each made more than $20 million, bringing the total budget to more than $250 million.
Universal had planned to distribute Red Notice as a theatrical release, but the studio objected at the rising cost. Netflix, which had been a part of the heated bidding war, stepped up to the plate. In recent years, the streamer has focused on developing its own franchises. The global spy picture The Gray Man, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, has concluded filming, apparently costing even more than Red Notice.
The Matrix 2 and 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3, all three Hobbit films, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and the final two Hunger Games films are among the sequels that were shot back-to-back.
Netflix’s All-Time Most-Watched Film
In just two weeks, the action-comedy Red Notice has become Netflix’s most popular film.
The Rock shared a clip from the film on Instagram, showing him and Ryan Reynolds trading jabs in a Russian prison cafeteria. Red Notice is now “THE BIGGEST MOVIE IN THE HISTORY OF NETFLIX!!!” according to the caption on the post. Not only has it topped the weekly charts in just two weeks, but it has also soared to become Netflix’s #1 feature film of all time.
Now that Red Notice has climbed to the top, it has pushed Bird Box, a post-apocalyptic thriller, to second place. Bird Box has been at the top of the ratings since its showy opening week, consuming viewers throughout Christmas and New Year’s in 2018 thanks to its viral success.
