Mavericks Dominate The Jazz To Lead The Series 3-2

The intensity in the playoffs are reaching an all-time high with each passing games. It is just the 1st round and the matchups have been anything but predictable. The series between the Utah Jazz and the Dallas Mavericks are on a standstill with the series tied 2-2. Having homecourt advantage, the Mavericks will be looking to win this game to lead the series.

The Dallas Mavericks went with the starting lineup of Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson, Reggie Bullock, Dorian Finney-Smith and Dwight Powell. The Utah Jazz started with Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, Bojan Bogdnaovic, Royce O’Neale and Rudy Gobert.

Game Summary

With the starting tip, the Mavericks opened the game with an alley-opp pass from Doncic to Powell. That opening 2 points created such a strong impact for the Mavericks that they went with their attack. Feeding the ball to Powell in the paint and the shooters in the perimeter, the Mavericks were hot-handed.

The Jazz were slow to start but they did following Donovan Mitchell. However, the Jazz were very cold as they were not able to get their shots to fall at all. The Mavericks kept their defense tight and they did not let the Jazz to score points.

The 2nd quarter commenced and the Jazz still weren’t able to get themselves going. Apart from Jordan Clarkson, none of the players were putting up points on the board. On the other hand, the Mavericks were led by Doncic, Brunson and Finney-Smith on the offense. The Mavericks ended up leading in the 1st half with a score of 52-36.

Once the 3rd quarter started, the Jazz was tightening the defense to not allow the Mavericks to do whatever they want. Plus the Jazz tried to take quality shots and were passing to Gobert who was making the basket efficiently.

But the Mavericks were no longer a team with just role players. They have their alpha in Luka Doncic. He proceeded to light up the arena with his array of shots to which the jazz couldn’t respond. He attacked the rim, made three 3s and drew fouls.

The Jazz continued to fall behind and the lead had grown to 30 points. Sensing that victory is at their hands, the Mavericks put all their effort on the defense and made steady shots on the other hand. The lead was too big for the Jazz and they fell to Mavericks.

Luka Doncic led his team to victory with a double-double of 33 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Jalen Brunson became the ideal second option to Luka putting up 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Dorian Finney-Smith put up 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal.

For the Jazz, Jordan Clarkson came off the bench and led the team in scoring with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Rudy Gobert came out with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Donovan Mitchell was absolutely stumped as he just put up 9 points and 2 rebounds.

The Dallas Mavericks annihilated the Utah Jazz with a scoreline of 102-77. The Mavericks now lead the series 3-2 entering Game 6 which will be in Jazz’s territory. The Jazz need to fix their shooting issues as they were cold the entire game. Mitchell has to step up and he cannot have games like this in the playoffs with the series at stake. The next game he needs to bring out his A-game, else the Jazz will be out in the 1st round again.
