Matthew Perry Reveals ‘No Hook Up’ Pact Between Friends Cast

Few of the cast members of Friends remember having a ‘no hook up rule’ during the show’s ten seasons on air. The cast explained how they prevented any on-set awkwardness. They looked back at the show as they promoted their upcoming reunion special.

The cast was asked if things ever got romantic between them. This is when Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer revealed the show’s strict no relationship policy. The men and women were sitting separately for an interview with Access and at times they revealed a classic case of ‘He said, She said’. As per Matt, Matthew and David, the Friends cast had a “no hook up” policy in place to avoid any potential romantic pitfalls.

“There was a rule that we had, it was really important to the six of us, that we kept a friendship; that we were friends,” Matthew said before sharing how hooking up could have presented a “strangeness” that :might mess with things.” The actor added that because of that they all kept a friendship and became really good friends.

He further said that they still are really good friends to this day and they kept going. The actor who played Chandler Bing said, “So we kept a friendship, and we did become really good friends. And we are really good friends to this day. And we kept that going, and I think that was very important.”

David shared that they did not want to jeopardize any of the great relationships and friendships they were creating or already established. He added that it was kind of an “unspoken rule”. Matt, on the other hand, described their friendship as more like siblings.

Matt Jokes That He & David Had The Best Chemistry

The actors then jokes about having the most chemistry during their 10-year run from 1994 to 2004. Matt said, “Me and Schwimmer, probably”. This was in reference to one of the episodes where Joey and Ross enjoyed taking a nap on top of each other.

All three of them also talked about living up to the Friends famous theme song, I’ll Be There For You, in real life. Matt said they are all friends and enjoy each other’s time. Being seasoned jokesters, Schwimmer couldn’t resist throwing in a comedic touch and said, “I blocked their calls, but other than that I think we are tight.”

Meanwhile, the girls admitted that they do not remember having any kind of “no hook up” pact. Courntey Cox revealed that it is a smart idea but she does not recall talking about it. The ladies jokes that their male co-stars might have made that rule to cover the fact that none of them were ever interested in each other.

However, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston and Courtney agreed with the guys about having their friendships living up to the sitcom’s famed theme song. “Always,” said Cox, as Aniston and Kudrow quickly jumped in and added, “True,” simultaneously.
