Match Review: Utah Jazz VS Golden State Warriors, April 2, 2022

The Golden State Warriors met the Utah Jazz for the 4th and last time this regular season. The Warriors have a 2-1 lead over them. The Jazz were looking for the win to even the series and the Warriors were looking for the win to gas themselves up for the upcoming playoffs. With Curry out due to foot injury, the Jazz knew they had a good chance to win.

The Warriors went with a roster of Jordan Poole, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney. The Jazz started with Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Bojan Bogdanovic and Royce O’Neale.

Game Summary

The Jazz looked like they wanted the win as they went with a 7-0 run in the starting minutes. As usual, the Warriors were taking a lot of 3-point shots which were missing and they were not defending well.

Added to that Donovan Mitchell was harassing the defence and supplying it to Rudy Gobert who took advantage of the Warrior’s bad interior presence. The 1st half saw the Jazz leading 58-45.

The 2nd half as well seemed like the Jazz would be taking the win when they extended the lead to 21. However, the Warriors were soon draining their 3 pointers as they were rotating the ball more with better player movement. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Thompson caught fire as he made 3 after 3.

In the 4th quarter, Thompson continued his barrage of 3s as the Jazz were completely caught off-guard by the Warriors’ barrage. The Warriors soon took the lead and maintained it till the whistle blew.

Box Score

The Warrior’s back court of Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson have become feared as they have shown their scoring prowess. Poole ended the game with 31 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Klay Thompson went for 36 points and 5 rebounds going 8 off 17 from beyond the arc.

Wiggins provided his consistent offence with 17 points and 2 steals to go along with that. Draymond Green did a bit of everything giving 10 points, 8 assists and 9 rebounds.

From the Jazz’s side, Mike Conley went for 26 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Donovan Mitchell gave 26 points, 3 assists and 2 steals. Bojan Bogdanovic went for 17 points and 2 steals. Rudy Gobert gave 14 points, 20 rebounds and 2 steals. Jordan Clarkson came off the bench to give 14 points as well.

The issue with the Jazz is that they are not playing much in the interior which they are good at and relying on 3 pointers. It makes no sense to lose so many possessions on 3s.

What this loss means for the Jazz

The Warriors took the game with a scoreline of 111-107. They win the regular season series with 3-1. The Jazz need to make a few changes as their game plan have not been working out at all because of which they have lost 6 of their last 7 games.

This is alarming with especially with the Playoffs approaching as if you are not being able o beat a team who is without their best player then there is some serious issues to be dealt with.
