Lily Collins said Yes! The “Emily In Paris” actress announced her engagement to writer/director Charlie McDowell.
“I’ve been waiting my lifetime for you and I can’t wait to spend our lifetime together”
Lily shared the exciting news on her Instagram in a series of photos from the romantic proposal. The bride-to-be seemed visibly emotional and surprised by the milestone moment, as Charlie seemed to have popped the question presumably during a romantic camping trip in a national park.
“I’ve been waiting my lifetime for you and I can’t wait to spend our lifetime together…” Collins captioned the series of photos. Which featured a pic of the couple kissing, and an adorable snap of the filmmaker getting down on one knee and an up-close look at her engagement ring.
In a second post, captioned, “The purest joy I’ve ever felt…,” the actress is beaming with happiness and all smiles as she shows off the stunning sparkler. The “Mirror Mirror” actress also shared a close-up of her unique engagement ring: a cushion-cut pink stone set on a thin gold band.
Celebrity well wishes and congratulatory messages
Lili’s engagement announcement was met with a lot of love and well wishes from her fans and celebrity pals alike. Mom-to-be Ashley Tisdale wrote, “Congrats!!!! ????????.” While Ciara commented, “Soooo happy for you! Love you Li Li boo! What a special day ????❤️????????????”
Zoey Deutch wrote, “???? congratulations !!!” whereas Taylor Hill chimed in with, “???????????? congrats!!!”

McDowell also shared the exciting news on his own Instagram account alongside a smiley photo of his new fiancée flashing her ring. He captioned the post with a heartfelt message for lily, writing, “In a time of uncertainty and darkness you have illuminated my life. I will forever cherish my adventure with you. ????????.”
Lily, who is the daughter of musician Phil Collins, was already showbiz royalty. However, it turns out her husband-to-be also descends from famous actors. Charlie’s parents are acting legends, Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen, while his stepfather is Ted Danson.
“You’ve opened my eyes and deepened my heart”
Collins and McDowell first began sparking dating rumors back in July 2019, when they were spotted on an outing together in Los Angeles. A month later, Collins made the relationship Instagram official when she shared a few snaps of the two in Paris, France. Where she was filming her latest release.
“Always got your back…” Collins captioned a photo of herself with her head leaning on McDowell’s back.
Earlier this year in July, Collins penned a romantic love note dedicated to McDowell on the occasion of his birthday.
“You’re a true gift of a human @charliemcdowell. An incredible boyfriend and the best dog dad to @redforddog,” she wrote. “You’ve opened my eyes and deepened my heart. You constantly inspire me to dream big and go outside of my comfort zone. Every day is an adventure with you and I can’t wait to explore more of the world together (when we can). At the end of the year, Charlie and Lily adopted their rescue dog and have been living together in Los Angeles amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

McDowell’s directing credits include episodes of the Kirsten Dunst-starring Showtime series On Becoming a God in Central Florida. As well as Legion,” “Dear White People” and “Silicon Valley.” The director was previously romantically linked to “Game of Thrones'” Emilia Clarke and “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” star Rooney Mara. Meanwhile, Collins previously dated her “The Mortal Instruments” co-star Jamie Campbell Bower, and has also been linked with the likes of Chris Evans and Zac Efron.
