‘LALISA’ is a humble respect to Lisa’s Thai beginnings as well as a celebration of the global K pop superstar

BLACKPINK’s Lisa revealed in a recent interview with Billboard that she officially changed her birth name on the advise of a fortune teller for “good luck” Lisa’s birth name is Pranpriya Manoban, which loosely translates to “beloved soul” for those unfamiliar.

She changed her name to Lalisa, which means “one who is praised,” and is the ideal name for a future celebrity.

You might be wondering what this has to do with Lisa’s debut. After all, it’s Lisa’s solo debut album, which is a humble homage to her much-loved Thai roots as well as a celebration of the global K-pop star, BLACKPINK’s world-renowned diamond maknae – Lalisa Manoban!

‘LALISA’

On September 10 at 9:30 a.m. IST, Lisa made her highly anticipated debut with the single album ‘LALISA’ (1 pm KST). There are two songs on the single album: the title song ‘LALISA’ and the b-side track ‘MONEY.’

Lisa said in a Naver live chat that she virtually “begged” Teddy Park (BLACKPINK’s music producer) to give her these two songs and that she would only debut with them.

Official B-side ‘MONEY’

The official b-side from ‘LALISA,’ ‘MONEY,’ is a smooth, flowy, almost conversational rap. ‘MONEY,’ like her title single ‘LALISA,’ shows a different side of Lisa, one that only die-hard BLINK fans are aware of. Fans know Lisa is as cool as a cucumber, and ‘MONEY’ perfectly captures the “I know I’m a Queen” side of Lisa without being arrogant.

It’s also an approval of BLACKPINK’s song, which has helped shape Lisa’s professional identity – cool, placed, and catchy, pronounce thy name ‘LALISA.’
