Kim Kardashian receives major backlash after holiday tweets revealing her 40th birthday party. The beauty mogul has been called “tone-deaf” as she shared birthday snaps from her luxurious vacation.
The reality star shared how she had planned a surprise trip for her family as they headed over to a tropical island to mark her 40th birthday. She shared that she felt humbled and blessed as she thanked her loved ones.
The KKW Beauty founder thanked everybody who has helped her shape into the woman she is today. Sharing various snaps of her and her family, the star said she felt really lucky to be able to escape with her loved ones amid the pandemic.
She wrote, “Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment.” The Skims creator revealed that she asked everyone to quarantine and had multiple health screens after two weeks.
The reality star shared, “I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island; where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time”. Further describing their vacation, she shared that they danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach, and much more.
However, Kim wrote, “I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40.” Many fans appreciated the beauty mogul for recognizing her privilege.
“People Are Going To Food Banks Not Private Islands”
But many others took to social media over her “disgustingly tone deaf” tweets. The critics brought light to the US death toll during the pandemic. Meanwhile, other users brought light to the non-essential travel ban in California. The ban does not apply to Kim and her guests as they quarantined and used a private plane.
“Cool, people have had to say goodbye to loved ones over the phone while they died alone in a hospital. But a neat trip to post all over social media while the world suffers. so humble and so down to earth, truly,” one disgruntled tweeter scolded.
Peter Frampton, a British musician also took to social media to criticize Kim and asked her if she is that insensitive that she does not realize this is not what the majority want to hear. He wrote, “People are going to food banks, not private islands.”
Another critic wrote how it does not look good to share “gleeful” news like this while people are struggling and dying. The user wrote sarcastically, “Look at me, I’m crazy rich, can get tested every day; fly my friends to private islands and pretend the hell you’re living in doesn’t exist. Oh, wait, it doesn’t for me. I’m rich!”
While another user pointed out that this might be the most tone-deaf thing she has ever posted. The user said that people are dying and losing their incomes and starving. However, few people jumped to her defense and asked why is that supposed to stop her from having a birthday party.
Another chimed in: “1) She didn’t put anyone at risk (Everyone was tested and quarantined) 2) By having her birthday party, she helped spend money on the economy Live and let live. Her activities didn’t put anyone in danger. P.S: I’m not a Kardashian fan at all and despise reality TV.”
However, many other users poked fun at Kim saying that she surprised her inner circle and at the same time saying that they were quarantined for two weeks. Others used the classic KUWTK dialogue and turned her 40th into a meme party.
Users shared her birthday bash as they wrote, “Kim, there are people that are dying”. This was a reference to the early episodes of KUWTK; when Kourtney calls Kim out for crying because she lost her diamond earring.
Many other users poked fun at Khloe’s new face this week.
