Kanye West Calls New Adidas Slides As “Fake Yeezys”

Kanye West has slammed Adidas for their recently introduced Adilette 22 slide sandals, calling them a phony Yeezy created by Adidas themselves.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, the rapper included a photograph of the slides – which sold out immediately after their debut in May – as well as a message written to Adidas CEO Kasper Rørsted.

“I’m not standing for this blatant copying no more,” West wrote. “This is for everyone who wants to express themselves but feel they can’t cause they’ll (lose) their contract or be called crazy.”

West goes on to claim that the shoes reflect the disrespect that those in authority have for the gift, before calling them “a fake Yeezy”. West concludes the caption by inviting Rørsted to come to speak to him personally.

West is most likely drawing parallels between the Adilette and his own Yeezy Slide collection, which debuted in late 2019. Both shoes have a similar featherlight, slip-on shape, and come in an earthy, brown color, with Adilettes being significantly less expensive at $55 (£45).

They were released in partnership with Adidas, like with all of West’s Yeezy sneakers. West joined the brand in late 2013, and their first collection was released in 2015. According to the rules of West’s deal with Adidas, the rapper retains 100 percent ownership of Yeezy and complete creative control over the goods launched by the brand.

West returned to Instagram last month to participate in a makeover of McDonald’s packaging in partnership with Muji artificial creator Naoto Fukasawa. It comes after the rapper was barred from the social networking site in March for breaking its hate speech, bullying, and importunity policies.

West’s duet with the late XXXTentacion, ‘True Love,’ was also officially released last month to coincide with the talkie Look At Me XXXTentacion. The music initially featured on West’s ‘Donda 2’ and was thus exclusive to the Stem Player, which debuted alongside the rapper.
