Justin Bieber took the part of Drake for the song Popstar’s music video with DJ Khaled. Not just that he was also lip-syncing to the lines where Drake mentions Selena Gomez.
Drake had name-dropped both exes, Selena and Justin, in one song Popstar back in July. In his song with DJ Khaled, Drake surprised everybody when he mentioned both the names in the verses of the song. And now, we got a music video with Justin Bieber not only lip-syncing to Drake’s verses but also saying Selena in the music video.
The video for Popstar was released on September 3. The video starts with Drake getting a shower of videos from DJ Khaled asking him to do a music video. DJ Khaled had a series of videos asking Drake to make a video for their collab ‘Popstar‘. After which Drake decides to call in a favor and ask Justin to be a part of the song and pretend to be him.
Cut to the music video, which begins with a lot of girls lying around on the ground and on the bed, only to reveal Justin waking up and lip-syncing to Popstar. Justin is seen partying with a bunch of girls in his Beverly Hills Mansion. Scooter Braun, Justin’s long-time manager, also makes a cameo when the lyrics mention him.
The cheeky line from Drake goes: “I’m a pop star, but this s–t ain’t bubblegum, yeah/ You would probably think my manager is Scooter Braun, yea.” Justin then approaches the verses where Selena is mentioned and to our surprise, he actually sportingly pulls it off. The verse goes, “Look, Ariana, Selena, my Visa.”
Justin Watching Selena’s Cooking Show?
This was a reference to Ariana Grande and Justin’s ex Selena. However, the entire video where Justin is lip-syncing turns out to be a dream. Justin wakes up in his bed with none other than his wife, Hailey Bieber. Hailey asks him, “You okay?” The singer replies, “Yeah I’m good, I had a crazy dream. Drake asked me to be in a video, but he wasn’t in the video…” He goes on to say he loves her.
This comes after fans speculated that Justin was watching Selena’s superhit cooking show, Selena + Chef on HBO Max. The singer had shared a screenshot of his HBO Max dashboard. Although not clearly, but fans quickly noticed that his dashboard displayed Selena’s show in the corner.
However, many fans came to realize later that the show wasn’t on his watchlist. It was the default page of HBO Max which showcased Selena’s show as well.
Earlier this year, Justin opened up about his past relationship with his on-again-off-again relationship with Selena. He said he did not handle it with caution. The singer said, “In my previous relationship, I went off and just went crazy and went wild, just was being reckless.” He opened up in the interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music back in February.
He changed the way of his life when he met Hailey and married her in 2018. Justin said he took his time to build himself and focus on himself. The singer said he is trying to make the right decisions and assured he has got better.
Selena Doesn’t Want To Be Defined By Who She Was With
At the time, Selena felt vindicated by Justin’s words according to a source. She, however, does not feel it takes back whatever happened in the past, while the two of them were together. Selena has made it clear that she does not want to be defined by the person she was with.
On her cooking show, Selena + Chef, she explained that she does not really appreciate the attention her personal life gets. She said that the part that frustrates her is when people think of her and think she is that girl who went out with that person. However, she did not take any names, it is no secret that she was in a high-profile relationship before.
“I would be devastated if people think that because I’ve worked so hard to not be that but to be, you know …” she continued as she started to tear up. “Sorry, I’m getting emotional.” Chef Vinny, her mentor on the episode, however, tried to comfort the singer and said knowing that she comes from a place like that makes it so much easier for them to do this now.
The source also said that Selena appreciates Justin talking about what he did and hopes that he is being genuine.
