Chrissy Teigen is replaced by Gigi Hadid in Season 2 of Never Have I Ever

In Netflix’s new season of Never Have I Ever, supermodel Gigi Hadid has taken over as the narrator from Chrissy Teigen. The show’s second season premiered on Thursday, following a popular first season partially based on the life of creator Mindy Kaling.

Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), a first-generation Indian-American high school student, explores complex and occasionally tense relationships with boyfriends, friends, and her demanding mother in this coming-of-age series. Devi transitions from being an over-achiever in school to an over-achiever in the guys department, caught in a love triangle with Paxton (Darren Barnet) and Ben (Jason Clarke) (Jarren Lewison).

According to Collider, Hadid has replaced Teigen as a guest narrator in the third episode of Netflix’s second season. Devi’s inner life and feelings are narrated by unexpected individuals in Never Have I Ever. Teigen resigned from Netflix in June after receiving criticism for violent tweets directed at then-16-year-old model Courtney Stodden.

Paxton learns about Devi’s love engagement with Ben in the third episode, “…opened a textbook,” which he doesn’t handle well. It also results in the high schooler being hit by a car, making for a difficult episode for the school’s swimming champion. Hadid plays the role of narrator, which is a natural replacement given her A-list status is on par with, if not more than, Teigen’s.

It’s hardly unexpected that Netflix chose a well-known celebrity to narrate the series because it contributes to the show’s overall strangeness.

Fortunately, the spot was simply for audio narration, so showrunners shouldn’t have had too much trouble substituting Teigen’s remark. Devi’s romantic troubles are familiar to anyone who has struggled with uncomfortable high school romances, which is one of the factors that makes Never Have I Ever so popular.
