The greatest animated character of all time is coming to the big screen to hit us with nostalgia!
Well, there have been a lot of iconic characters we got to witness in our childhood. But can you make any guess of what is the most anticipated animated film of the year, for which both adults and teenagers can’t wait?
Well, this character we are referring to here is none other than your very friendly neighborhood mustached game character- plumber Mario.
Fans are baffled to see how Pratt’s role will be in the upcoming movie. His role as the Italian plumber is been seen as a curious role.
Hollywood actor Chris Pratt also better known for his Marvel character as Star-Lord will be seen voicing Mario in the upcoming animated film of this very character.
In a recent interview with Variety, the actor has revealed his experience working on this upcoming animated project. He said he had to look at the right approach to this character to play this iconic Mario. Pratt says, his role as Mario is something unheard of in the Mario world and that he is happy to have updated the role with his contribution.
He said- “I worked really closely with the directors and tried out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear. It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before,” he said.”
Chris Meledandri film’s producer and Shigeru Miyamoto Mario’s creator, defended Pratt’s performance as Mario and said to The Deadline- When people hear Chris Pratt’s performance, the criticism will evaporate, maybe not entirely — people love to voice opinions, as they should,” -said Meledandri.
Further adding he said that casting Pratt as an Italian character and his Italian accent might be received as an offense to the Italian descent, “I’m not sure this is the smartest defense, but as a person who has Italian-American heritage, I feel I can make that decision without worrying about offending Italians or Italian-Americans. … I think we’re going to be just fine,”– said the producer.
However, it would be too early to be critical about it and we can only wait until it’s released.
The other stars to be on board with Chriss Pratt are- Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong.
The animated movie based on the character Super Mario Bros. was originally set to be released in December 2022 but now has been officially postponed to April 2023.
It is unclear how would Chris Pratts’ Mario voice may appeal to the audience. But, one thing is for sure we are soon getting an animated film adaptation of The Super Mario Bros.
