Bryan Danielson Explains Why He Signed With AEW Rather Than WWE

Bryan Danielson has disclosed why he chose AEW over WWE. So folks assume I had 2 alternatives among WWE and AEW, but the truth is that I was considering three options, which were WWE, AEW, or just not being a full-time wrestler anymore and being more of a full-time dad, Danielson revealed. When I told Brie that with the money that each corporation was giving to me, I consider she may have wanted to eliminate me, Danielson said.

Danielson went on to say that three factors influenced his decision to join AEW: a lighter workload, more creative liberty, and the opportunity to change things up and try stuff new. He also expressed a desire to be able to bleed during matches, claiming that there was something magical about it that made him feel very alive.

Danielson joined WWE in 2009 and won the World Heavyweight Championship the following year. In 2012, he formed Team Hell No with Kane before launching the Yes Movement and having won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 30 the very next year. He was forced into retirement from ring action in 2016 and was immediately named General Manager of Smackdown.

He would be medically cleared to compete in the ring again a few years later, in 2018, but would have numerous feuds in the following years already when his agreement was released in early May of last year. Danielson will choose not to re-sign with WWE and instead join AEW in September 2021, making an appearance at the conclusion of the All Out event that year. He competed for the AEW World Championship against Hangman Adam Page earlier this year and is now a founder member of Blackpool Combat Club along with Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, & William Regal.

Triple H, Paul Levesque had also taken over McMahon’s role as creative director for WWE. The impact of Levesque is already visible. Dakota Kai, previously known as Io Shirai, was summoned from NXT, and both made their main roster debut appearance at SummerSlam last Saturday night. Veteran NXT Champion Karrion Kross and Scarlett too are back in WWE after shockingly reappearing at the end of Friday’s SmackDown. Banks and Naomi are rumoured to be returning to WWE under the creative new regime led by Levesque.
