Britney Spears To Speak In Court Directly About Her Conservatorship Case

Britney Spears is trying to fight as she is ready to speak for herself. At a recent hearing on her long-standing conservatorship in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Britney’s lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham III said the singer has requested a status hearing.

In this hearing, she can address the court directly. Her lawyer did not specifically state what the pop star would like to talk about. However, he did say that it would pertain to the “status of the conservatorship”. She has been under it for 13 years and her lawyer proposed that the hearing be scheduled on an “expedited basis”. This means her lawyers proposed it to be within the next 30 days.

The judge, Brenda Penny, has granted this request and set the next hearing for June 23. There will also be another additional hearing in the case which is scheduled for July. Britney has not addressed her situation directly. The singer was first placed under the conservatorship in 2008.

Last summer, the pop star made it clear that she was “strongly opposed” to her father, Jamie returning to the role as the sole conservator of her affairs and finances. The singer’s father had stepped down from his role of conservatorship in 2019 after more than a decade. Britney had said she preferred Jodi Montgomery to continue in that role.

Jodi was the licensed conservator who took over Jamie’s post in 2019. Judge Brenda had declined Britney’s request to suspend Jamie from his role last November. Back then, the singer’s lawyer told the judge that Britney is afraid of her father. He also added that she will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career.

Britney Requests Her Father’s Resignations From Conservatorship

“We are now at a point where the conservatorship must be changed substantially in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes,” Ingham said. In February this year, the judge ruled that Bessemer Trust Company would be the co-conservators along with Jamie. The company is a wealth management and investment advisory firm based in California.

At that time, Jamie’s lawyers had revealed that their client “has diligently and professionally carried out his duties as one of Britney’s conservators” and the court’s rulings showed “the court’s confidence in our client Jamie Spears and Bessemer Trust to manage the conservatorship of Ms. Spears’ estate together.”

Jamie’s lawyers have also said that it was clear during the hearing that his love for his daughter and dedication to protecting her was evident to the court. The lawyers further said that their client is looking forward to working with Bessemer to continue an investment strategy in his daughter’s best interest.

Britney had requested her father’s resignation as her permanent conservator and that Jodi’s current role as temporary conservator should be made permanent. The document also stated that Spears “reserves the right to petition for the termination of this conservatorship.”
