Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 19th Match (D/N), Brabourne, April 10, 2022, Indian Premier League

Match Result: Pending

Match Report: This game is between current captain of Delhi Capitals and Former Captain of Delhi Capitals. This game is between the two teams who qualified last year to the playoffs. And it promises to be an exciting one as the Capitals have managed to put on a score beyond 200. They started off brilliantly riding on the half centuries of Shaw and Warner. This is second game of Warner this IPL and he has announced himself in style. Scoring 61 runs at a quick strike rate, Warner hit 6 fours and 2 sixes. Shaw gave the early kickstart and the other batters capitalized on that. Pant came in one down as the start was too good. He scored runs quickly before being dismissed for 27. There were two quick wickets after that of Yadav and Powell. The momentum shifted towards the Knights but then Axar Patel and Lord Thakur took it away.

Axar and Shardul gave the best finishing touch possible. Thakur justified his promotion up the order as he scored 29 off just 11 balls, of which 18 runs came in the form of 3 sixes. Axar wasn’t bad either scoring 22 off 14. Looking at the bowling charts, Narine was the pick of the bowlers. The Caribbean spinner has terrific record against Delhi and he continued that with 2 wickets to his tally, at an economy of just over 5. But if you look at other bowlers, all were pretty average. Especially Cummins, who got hit again for over 12 per over. He had a fantastic match with the bat last time but his struggles with the ball continued. Purple cap holder Umesh Yadav too was not as impressive. He was quite expensive, and he failed to strike wickets with the new ball like he previously did.

Sunil Narine: Any team that’s on top of the table is in a good mood. But we generally have a good mood in the camp, no matter if we win or lose, that says a lot about the team. The way our fast bowlers have been bowling, especially Umi (Umesh Yadav), I think he is doing a very good job. Once you come into the attack with wickets falling, it becomes a little more easier for us to get in the game. The main thing is to keep it simple, and continue what we have been doing. We don’t need to think too much and focus on what needs to be done.

David Warner: As I’m getting older, I’m doing a lot more running. My wife is my running partner and I’m doing a lot more short sprints. When I started out (in T20), we just went out there and played the game. Now, franchises are putting more effort for building for the future and becoming more professional. Each individual athlete is a professional these days. It’s about getting a win on the board (today), can’t get too far behind this early. It’s about going there and putting in our best efforts. Fielding is a big component of that and we’ll try our best to outfield Kolkata because that’s where games are won or lost.
