AOC’s Ticket To Met Gala Was Paid? Rep Defends Herself For TAX THE RICH Gown

Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made the internet buzz at the 2021 Met Gala by wearing a statement gown. The gown had the words, TAX THE RICH written on the back and she soon became the centre of controversy.

She received backlash for wearing a dress with that statement to a charity event worth $35,000 per ticket. However, turns out she did not pay for the ticket after all. She revealed that she had received a free ticket to the biggest red carpet event of the year.

Even the NYC Mayor who was spotted at the Met Gala didn’t pay for the tickets. As per the Met Museum spokesperson, the Democrat leaders were guests of the event. The Met Gala was held on September 13 and was hosted by Timothee Chalamet, Amanda Gorman, Billie Eilish and Naomi Osaka.

AOC’s outfit with the giant red letters was designed by Brother Vellies. As per social media users, they were debating if AOC’s statement was the right move or not. She has been fighting at the forefront of the battle for income equality for quite some time. And as she did not pay for the tickets, she did not contribute to the charity proceeds for the Met’s Costume Institute.

She spoke about breaking the fourth wall instead of playing along with Keke Palmer. AOC shared that the Met Gala is seen as elite and inaccessible. She added, “As a working-class woman, [I] wanted to enjoy the event but also break the fourth wall and challenge the industry. We really started having a conversation about what it means to be a working-class woman of color at the Met … we can’t just play along, but we need to break the fourth wall.”

As per Daily Mail, the tickets for AOC or the NYC Mayor were not paid for by the event organizer. It remains to be found out who actually offered to pay for their tickets; as the politicians are themselves choosing to be silent about it. But AOC did defend her invitation and said she was called to the event; because of her responsibility for “overseeing and supporting the city’s cultural institutions.”

This is not the first time AOC has received backlash; as she has earlier also been promoting income equality while driving a $35,000 Tesla.
