Ant-Man 3’s Evangeline Says She Finally Understands Hope Van Dyne

Evangeline Lilly plays Hope Van Dyne in the Ant-Man franchise and reveals that she finally understands her character. The Canadian actress first appeared in Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2015’s Ant-Man.

She was the eventual second iteration of Wasp which is a role she reprised in both Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Endgame. Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantamania will be the second time we see her character and it is set to premiere on February 17, 2023.

Evangeline’s character and her counterpart, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang have had a more ancillary role in the MCU. However, fans hope that this will change with Peyton Reed’s third instalment. We also know that the next appearance of Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror is confirmed in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania. He was teased as Marvel Studios‘ next big enemy in the Loki finale.

The plot of the movie is being kept a mystery in typical Marvel fashion. However, Wasp may very well become humanity’s first line of defence against an enemy with the ability to dominate the time-space continuum. As per a THR interview, Evangeline believes she has finally cracked her cryptic character.

She described Hope as the most challenging role she has ever done. This comes despite the actress having played the role for 3 movies. However, this time something connected when she read the script for Ant-Man 3. She does not expect anyone to notice that.

“That’s what I do for a living. But I know the difference…”

The actress shared, “Hope is an odd enigma for me. But the truth is that I find it harder to know and understand Hope than any other character I’ve ever played before. And I will say that after I read the script of [Quantumania], I did have a kind of eureka moment.” She added that she is hoping to see the difference when they have finally wrapped up. But she does not think people will notice that as she describes herself as a “good bluffer”.

Evangeline continued, “That’s what I do for a living. But I know the difference and I’m hopeful that in this one, I’ll feel like I can watch it and go, “Yeah, you had a better handle on her in this one than you ever have before.” That’s my goal, anyway. That’s my hope.”

Hope has always been strong, clever, and capable and she has matured substantially since her first appearance. Becoming the Wasp is a crucial thing in this process; as it will allow her to embrace the destiny she has always known was hers. She has regained one in each of the films which must have been majorly impactive.

Fans will agree with Evangeline that her inability to completely comprehend her character up to this point hasn’t been evident. However, even if fans can tell the difference in her performance, her revelation is unquestionably positive. The actress has previously stated that she believed Ant-Man 3’s writing is the best in the franchise.
