Ansel Elgort was accused of sexually assaulting a girl when she was 17 years old.
On Friday, June 19, a woman came out and said that Ansel had sexually assaulted her when she just turned 17. She published a lenghty post on Twitter saying that when she met Ansel, he forced himself on her.
The woman claimed that instead of asking her if she wanted to stop having sex, knowing it was her first time, Ansel forced himself on her. She continues saying that he made her feel as if this is how it should be.
At that time, she could not tell anyone, as it would ruin his career.
She went on to say that years later she has PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). The woman then justifies why she spoke about this now by saying, “I just want to heal and I want other girls who have been through the same s–t as me, you’re not alone. It’s a lot for me to even come on here and tell my story but I know it’s needed.”
Ansel took to Instagram to clear the air and posted a lenghty image of his personal statement.
Ansel’s apology
He started off by saying that he feels distressed after hearing these allegations in the past 24 hours. Ansel said the description of the events by the woman is not true because that is not how it happened.
Ansel accepted that him and the woman, Gabby, were in a relationship. But he made sure to clarify that they were in a consensual relationship. He admits to not handling the breakup very well and ignoring her.
Ansel went on to apologise for his insensitive behaviour.
He concluded his statement, “As I look back at my attitude, I am disgusted and deeply ashamed of the way I acted. I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy.”
These allegations against Elgort after he condemned Kevin Spacey. Who was also accused of sexual harassment multiple times. At the time, Spacey took to Twitter to apologise and said it might be because he was drunk but he does not recall anything.
Elgort, in an interview, explains how it should not be okay for such behaviour. He said he was really shocked.
“I think what’s happening right now in the industry is people are standing up and saying that certain ways of the industry are no longer acceptable or in life in general. The world should be a safer place where sexual harassment is not acceptable,” he explained.
Ansel has been accused of making several controversial comments over the years. In December 2014, he told GQ magazine: “Girls love it when you have some weird nerdy thing in your room. It makes you look less threatening, even though I’m, like, very threatening. I’m the most threatening guy ever.”
He got under a lot of fire for making a comment like this. Ansel is in a relationship with Violetta Komshyan since 2012. She is also his childhood sweetheart. The couple broke up in 2014 for a while but got back together months later.
