Amanda Seyfried Replaces Kate McKinnon In Hulu’s Elizabeth Holmes Series

Amanda Seyfried has been roped in to replace Kate McKinnon and star as Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s next highly anticipated project, The Dropout.

The Oscar-nominated actress will also be producing the venture. According to the ABC News podcast, The Dropout is a limited series that will be tracing how Theranos founder Holmes raised hundreds of millions to fund the biotech startup. It also became a media darling and consecutively hid the fact that her blood-testing machine did not really work.

The drama will be based on ABC News podcast with the same name. It was also the basis for a 20/20 episode. Elizabeth Meriwether, the showrunner, Liz Heldens, Liz Hannah, Taylor Dunn, Katherine Pope, Rebecca Jarvis and Victoria Thompson will be the executive producers.

The series is from Searchlights TV division and 20th Television. And Amanda will also be the producer for the venture. She has replaced Kate in the role as she departed from the venture last month. The limited series was supposed to start production after NBC wrapped up its comedy sketch, SNL’s current season.

After Kate left the project, the casting search began quite immediately. The Dropout was one of the two series that Kate had been ready for after SNL. She is set to appear in and executive produce NBC Universal’s Joe Exotic series. The premiere date for that is set up for 2022 debut across NBC, USA and streamer Peacock.

Kate had signed The Dropout before Joe Exotic. Amanda, has been nominated for her supporting turn as Marion Davies in Mank. This means she is not new to the television world. The actress started her career as a regular on As The World Turns. She also appeared in HBO’s Big Love and Veronica Mars. The Oscar-nominated actress was also in 2017’s Twin Peaks revival.

On the big screen, her credits include Les Misérables, Dear John, Mean Girls, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Scoob and A Milion Ways to Die in the West.
