Hollywood actor Ben Stiller met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Ukraine’s Kyiv on Monday. The actor hailed the comedian-turned-president as, “my hero”, for the rallying of the world’s support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s invasion. The actor said, “It’s a great honor for me.. you’re my hero!” the actor is the UN goodwill ambassador who had met the Ukrainian leader on the World Refugee Day.
The actor, said “What you’ve done, the way that you’ve rallied the country, the world, it’s really inspiring,” Stiller went on to refer to Zelensky’s countless speeches to audiences which the actor gave to the world to rally support for his embattled country.
The meeting of the actor and the president was released by the Ukrainian president’s office. Whereas earlier on Monday the actor also visited the Kyiv suburb of Irpin, which was the place where the scene of fierce battles took place in the early on in the invasion of Russia towards Ukraine and the closest Moscow’s army had got to the capital since it had sent the troops into Ukraine back in February when the war started.
Zelensky Thanked Stiller For Coming Up
The Ukrainian president said, “I feel it’s hard to understand what’s actually going on here if you haven’t been here.” He president further said and shared his experience on his visit to Irpin, “I was in Irpin this morning.. and the actual level of destruction, you see it on TV, you see it on social media, but it’s something else to actually see it, feel it and then to talk to the people.”
The Ukrainian president spoke in English, and thanked the actor for coming, and told him it was “very important” for him to keep reminding people what was going on in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian leader also told the actor, “It’s very important for us that people don’t forget. It’s not interesting to speak about the war every day.. but for us it’s very important.”
