Vampire Diaries’s Candice Accola King Is Pregnant with Her Second Baby: ‘I’ve Got a Bun in the Oven’
Candice Accola King has another baby on the way! The 33-year-old Vampire Diaries star recently shared that she and her husband of 7 years, Joe King, are expecting their second child together.
“It’s been a journey to say the least”
Candice made the announcement on the newest episode of her podcast, Directionally Challenged, with co-host, Kayla Ewell, on Monday.
“Something I have not shared yet on this podcast is that I’m actually pregnant,” Accola King said during the episode. In which guest star, Haize Hawke, a doula, life coach and spiritual counselor, had joined that day. “I’ve got a bun in the oven,” the actress revealed. “I’m a little over five months, so it’s been the entirety of the whole quarantine experience and everything that 2020 has brought us this year,” she said. “And it’s been a journey to say the least.”
When the podcast episode dropped, the actress teased her pregnancy on Instagram writing, “There might also be some exciting news shared in this special episode ????.”
“I feel comfortable and confident enough to discuss it now”
As for why Candice finally spilled the baby news after a brief waiting period, she explained. “I feel comfortable and confident enough to discuss it now. I am someone who likes to keep pregnancy to myself and obviously with my partner, my husband. And our immediate friends and family until I feel comfortable and confident that I’m in a place in my pregnancy. And the baby’s OK and I’m OK, the best it can be. But I’m finally at that place right now, which feels really good,” she said.
“It’s so exciting!” gushed Ewell, who is clearly over the moon for her friend. She also added that it’s been hard to keep Candice’s pregnancy a secret. “It’s just a wonderful, lovely, optimistic part of life in a time, [where] optimism can be hard to find right now.”
Accola King tied the knot with The Fray guitarist, Joe King, in New Orleans in 2014, three years after they first met, at a Super Bowl event in 2011. A year later in 2012, King starred in The Fray’s music video for “Love Don’t Die.” The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, Florence May in 2016. The upcoming baby will be the second child for her and her husband, though they also share two daughters, Elise and Ava, from Joe’s first marriage.
“It’s been a fear-based pregnancy so far”
The Originals actress added on the podcast Tuesday that she is doing well with the pregnancy second time around. However, it hasn’t been emotionally easy. “Physically, I feel great,” she shared, adding that she’s experiencing a “more energetic second trimester.”
King went on to reveal that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and being forced to spend time in isolation has definitely taken a toll on her. “It’s been a fear-based pregnancy so far,” she said, adding that her husband has been unable to accompany her to doctor’s appointments because of the pandemic.
“It’s been kind of odd to share the experience in discussing it with friends and family”
Comparing her current pregnancy to the first one, King recalled, “I’m moving around so much less this pregnancy than I did my first pregnancy. I realize how stagnant I am because I don’t really go anywhere,” she explained. “It takes a lot more effort to convince myself to go on a walk. Which really ties into a lot of the emotional weight that I’ve been carrying around.”
“Quite honestly, it’s actually been easier for me to not talk about pregnancy this time around. It’s been kind of odd to share the experience in discussing it with friends and family. Because I can’t really physically share the experience of hugging friends right now comfortably. Or, you know, knowing when I’m going to see my family next, and I haven’t seen them this entire pregnancy so far,” the actress revealed.
Candice added, “And so it’s all weighed on me emotionally… it’s just been such an emotional experience for everybody navigating the [pandemic] basically, yeah. Having to quarantine and keep ourselves safe and healthy.”
