To be pregnant in the era of corona virus, is to live with a whole new set of anxieties, says Ciara. In a recent interview with British Vogue, the singer opened up about her pregnancy during the pandemic, parenting and feeling ‘cautious.’
The 34 year old singer, who is expecting her third child, showed off her blossoming baby bump in a ribbed cream maxi dress. Ciara however, doesn’t want to reveal when she’s due. “I don’t like to put it out there in public. I just pray I make it to that magic 38-week mark”
“I wanted to be really cautious”
It’s already challenging enough to be pregnant. But for those who are pregnant during the pandemic, the stress goes up by several notches. Ciara recalls going to the hospital for her ultrasound. Her husband, Russell Wilson drove his wife to the clinic and then waited in the car. “I wanted to be really cautious,” Ciara explains. “I had a little zip lock bag of gloves for the appointment and then I had my mask. When I went from one room to the other, I switched to a new pair of gloves.”
Ciara talked about how it was having the ultrasound without her husband beside her.
“When the image of the baby came on the screen, I Face Timed Russ in the car so that he could see. We women carry the baby. But for my husband, being in the room and listening to the heartbeat in real time is one of his ways of connecting. For him not to be part of that was a symbol of this time that we’re living through.”
“The strength of a woman is very real”
Ciara had a message for other pregnant women navigating these uncertain times just like her. “Hang in there. God never gives you more than you can bear. If there is one thing I know, it’s that the strength of a woman is very real.”
Announcing her pregnancy
Ciara announced her latest pregnancy in a breathtaking Instagram post. The picture, taken on a beach during a trip to Turks And Caicos, shows her glorious baby bump. Ciara captioned the photo saying, “Number 3.”
The Level Up singer is expecting a baby boy with celebrated NFL quarterback, Russell Wilson. Ciara and Russell have been married since July 2016. On April 29, 2017, the couple welcomed their daughter, Sienna Princess Wilson.
Ciara also has a 6 year old son with ex fiance, Future. The exes have battled over the custody of their son for many years, but things appear to have settled down between them.
Ciara on Parenting
Ciara talked about the struggles of parenting during the lockdown. The singer admitted that it was a challenge to keep her children entertained.
‘That break in the day when you send your kids to school is a luxury,’ she said. “We’re trying all kinds of stuff to keep them both occupied. The other day I got in the car with Sienna and drove her past some horses for a change of scenery.’
The singer went on to explain the impact a parent can have on their children. “The simplest things in a child’s life can have the biggest impact on who they become, and we take a lot of pride in that,” she replies. “Future has a chore checklist and has been sweeping up around the house. Russ is all about structure.”
Ciara revealed that Russell being a father figure in her unborn son’s life is of the utmost importance to her. ‘Your son gets to see how his dad treats a woman. Your daughter gets to see how you are loved. I’m a daddy’s girl, and my dad’s love is what saved me in situations in my life when I could have taken a left turn.’
