‘American Idol’ Alums Gabby Barrett and Cade Foehner Expecting First Child Together
Congratulations are in order for Gabby Barrett and her husband, Cade Foehner! The “American Idol” alums announced that they are growing their family and expecting their first child together, and it’s a baby girl!
The news comes two years after the singers met as contestants on season 16 of American Idol in 2018. They got engaged nearly a year later in March 2019, and tied the knot back in October last year. Both Barrett and Foehner happily confirmed their pregnancy on Instagram this Sunday.
“We are very excited,” Barrett revealed. “The Lord has blessed us with a little one, and we’re really excited to finally be able to share the news with everybody and just have a big old family celebration about it.”
“And then there were three…”
The pair both posted similar couple photos on their respective Instagrams. Gabby is seen in a lovely white off-the-shoulder dress that displays her baby bump as she held hands with her husband. “And then there were three… Psalm 127:3 ✨???????????? #babyfoehner,” Gabby wrote alongside a first look at her maternity photos.
Dad-to-be Cade, shared her excitement as he penned down a lovely message for his wife and future daughter. “I have the most amazing Wife in the world. I can’t possibly come up with strong enough words to honor her as she has honored me in giving me a baby girl! Praise the Lord our God! #babyfoehner. He then quoted a Bible verse, writing, ‘Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.’ Psalms 127:3-5”
“That’s all that I said, and he knew what that meant”
Gabby is due early next year and the rising country star revealed that she and Foehner first found out that she was pregnant in May.
“We were in Texas visiting Cade’s side of his family,” she says. “And it’s funny, because I did not think that I was (pregnant). Around lunchtime, I remember taking the test and my eyes nearly crossed! I was like, ‘Wait, is that two lines?’ Gabby continued, “I came running out to Cade and was just like, ‘Oh my gosh, I think I am.’ That’s all that I said, and he knew what that meant. I started crying, and it was very sweet.”
“The Good Ones” singer revealed that her mother-in-law was in the room when she “came yelling down with the test” and her father-in-law was out working in the yard. “We called him and told him,” she says. “Then we called and told my family. It was just a really happy time,” Gabby recalled.
“We were blown away that it worked so quickly”
Ever since he and Barrett got married, Foehner says they’ve “talked and prayed” about having kids. “Then, of course, with the pandemic happening, there was this huge amount of time to think and rethink what life was going to be about,” he says. “So we started trying pretty much at the start of the whole pandemic. It happened pretty quickly. We were expecting it to take a little while, and it seemed like it happened in the first try. So we were just so excited. We were blown away that it worked so quickly. But yes, we were starting to plan on it, for sure.”
Being Pregnant during the Pandemic and Pickle cravings
Being pregnant amid the COVID-19 pandemic has also had its challenges, Gabby explained. “I have to go to some appointments, unfortunately, without my husband, which is really sad,” she says. “But I mean, if that’s what keeps the baby safe, then that’s what we’re going to do. We’ve just been trying to find ways to really work with it, because that’s all we can do at this point.”
However, apart from that Barrett says all has been good with her pregnancy so far. Moreover, she’s finally ‘starting to understand the stereotypical pickle craving.’ “I am very much into that salty-vinegar taste, that tart kind of bitter taste,” she says.
“I get to have two Gabbys!”
The couple, who are expecting a daughter together, recalled how ecstatic they were when they found out. “I get to have two Gabbys!” Foehner happily remarked. “Ones not enough.”
“One is enough,” Barrett jokingly corrected her husband. “We were really excited whether it was a boy or a girl. I always wanted a girl growing up, as well as a boy. So to have a girl first is just really exciting. I hope she gets his hair, definitely not mine,” she remarked.
As to what they think their parenting styles will be when their daughter, whose name they’re going to keep under wraps until she’s born, arrives, Foehner says it’ll all be based in their Christian faith. “[We’re going to] create a culture of Jesus Christ around our kids and show how we are to live in accordance with his lordship over the Earth,” he says.
“Me and Cade, we do everything together”
When life returns to normal post-pandemic and they’re able to tour again, the pair plans to “do everything together,” including “a family rodeo in a tour bus.”
“Me and Cade, we do everything together, and you’ll see us both on the stage at the same time,” Barrett says. “It’s always been a dream to take our family out on the road and be able to do the job that we love. Surrounded by family and having them experience everything.”
Though Barrett, who hit No. 1 earlier this year with her hit “I Hope,” says the baby hasn’t inspired any new songs just yet, the possibility is not out of the question. “We’ve just been really letting this settle in,” she says. “But maybe there’s a potential song in the future made about it.”
The couple has been quarantining at their home in Nashville and with Foehner’s family in Texas.
